Golf, from 7A slots contributed a 176. Todd Rigdon paced the Hornet golfers with a 74, eight shots be hind Sean McGinity. Ed Strickland turned in a solid performance, com ing into the clubhouse one stroke Talton, from7A "When he is throwing well," said Hornet head coach Bert Brown about Talton, "and getting ahead of hitters, we tend to play better de fense and hit the ball better as well." Not only was Talton the pitch ing star of the game, but he also provided the offensive punch as well. With the Bulldogs pitching around Nuss, walking the Hornet power hitter three times, Talton stepped up and filled the vacuum, getting two hits, including a dou ble, and five RBIs on the evening. Physicals, from7A School, Houston County High School, Westfield or Perry High School must get a physical. He said that there would be no makeup day. The physicals will start at 8:30 in the morning, and will be given by doctors at Perry Hospital. Mc- Carty said there would be no makeup physicals. Thompson, liom7A winning all-state honors the last two years. Thompson started on the mound her sophomore and junior years before moving to shortstop her senior year. "She's just an all-around funda mentally sound softball player," said Campbell. "She hits to all fields." Campbell said it would be hard for the Hornets to replace Thomp son next year. "Anybody with Lau rie's (Thompson) talents, you can't really replace them." Thompson batted third in the lineup for the Lady Hornets, finish ing the year with a batting average just a shade below .400. "She's just a super player," said Campbell. Felton, from 7A good choice." Felton said N.E. Nebraska was looking for a small power "who could pass well and knew the game.” In signing with N.E. Nebraska, Felton is turning down offers to go to some small four-year programs. "Tarvis (Felton) is still a devel oping player," said Thomas. "His frame is such that it can hold some MOM She deserves the very best. And you deserve the lowest prices. Scott Hill finished the round with a 78, while Keith Davis shot an 89, which did not count towards the team score. "The key is having five solid golfers," repeated Arrington. "All of mine are capable of shooting in the 705." Arrington said his team had a good chance at the state champi onship. However, he added that a 307 would probably fall short in the state. "They (his golfers) all have to shoot in the mid-705," said Arring- Hornets, from7A Southland and Stratford. "You want your team playing well at tournament time," said Brown. "I've got to be pleased with how well things have gone the last couple of weeks." After starting the season slowly, winning only two of their first 13 games, the Hornets have righted their ship, coming back to win five of their last six. Only two bad in nings, the first and fifth against Tattnall, separate the Hornets from a perfect Record over the last six games, said Brown. Although Athens Christian would take the early lead with a single run in the top of the first, the Hornets would be in control throughout the game. In the bottom of the first, the Hornets stung Eagle pitching for three runs on two hits, with Nuss getting an RBI double for the bie HoopfeSt, from 7A to enter the tournament is sls per team. Felton said that he had offers from Piedmont, Wolford and Geor gia College. Thomas added that those offers would still be there at the end of two years if no better of fers appeared. ton, if the Hornets are to have a chance at winning the champi onship. "If we get four scores in the mid-70s, we should be in the run ning.” Chief obstacles in the way of a state championship for Westfield will be Southland, which beat the Hornets earlier this year by 17 strokes, 309-326, Westminster Academy, Brentwood, Tattnall and Stratford Academy. Brentwood will have a slight advantage as the host school. "It should make for a right tight state championship tournament," said Arrington. hit in the inning. The Hornets would continue their attack in the bottom of the second, batting around, putting four runs on the board as Thad Hawk and Jake Walls had RBI singles. The Eagles would rally for one run in the third, cutting Westfield's lead to 7-2. However, the Hornets would get the run back in the bot tom of the third when Hawk's sui cide squeeze scored Lance Watson, who had reached with a flair to left. Leadoff man Matt Shepley pro vided the Hornets with the power in the fourth, ripping a double to right scoring two of Westfield's three fourth inning runs.
