euthanasia is a misnomer. All the
procedure does is allow the patient
to die without heroic measures be
ing used. Routine, non-heroic mea
sures are still used. This is not
euthanasia in the sense of setting
out to end life; but, it is allowing
life to end.
However, the actions of Dr. Jack
Kevorkian have raised a new debate.
That is the debate over active
euthanasia. Where passive euthana
sia lets death run its course, active
euthanasia runs out to met death.
Is it truly right to force a person
to live in constant pain, with no
hope for the future, no hope of
cure, no hope, even, of relief from
the pain? Is it truly right to force a
person to live with diminishing
physical and mental capacity, to
force a person with a powerful in
tellect to live while that intellect
dies slowly each day?
If we have the freedom to choose
how we live, should we not have
the freedom to choose when and
how we die? If there is a God, is
that a right that only God has?
The Netherlands allows doctors
to do what Dr. Kevorkian does.
Until recently, doctors in the
Netherlands had to obtain the per
mission of the patient to practice
active euthanasia. However, many
doctors simply assumed that a pa
tient, who was severely ill, wanted
to die. As a result, the Netherlands
liberalized their policy, allowing
doctors the choice of deciding if a
patient should be euthanasized, or
put to death.
Even before the Netherlands
passed the new law, the elderly, the
severely sick, the handicapped, all
the people who could fall under ac
tive euthanasia were afraid to go to
hospitals. Too many never left,
even if they wanted to go on living.
"There is a time to die." But,
who decides when that lime is? I
am not real comfortable with pas
sive euthanasia; and, there arc real
problems with active euthanasia.
What happens, for instance,
when the doctor wants to end life,
but the patient wants to live?

Herbal medicines
guarantee satisfaction
Herbal medicine goes back
thousands of years and for just as
long healers in India have practiced
a form of medicine known as
Ayurveda. Twenty-five years ago
this physical and spiritual science
was pioneered in the United States
by Yogi Bhajan. He has been
teaching in the United States for 25
years and is from a long line of
Ayurvedic practitioners and healers.
Their formulas are based on
strengthening and balancing the
constitutional elements "Tattvas"
and the corresponding spiritual
energy centers "Chakras" to restore
us to health.
They offer six traditional
formulas for balancing the body’s
generative forces. They are made
from the finest available herbs, and
their brochures introduce you to
Ayurveda, the "science of life."
All their products are 100
percent satisfaction guaranteed or
yout money back and they contain
no animal products, dairy, egg,
yeast, gluten, corn, soy, or wheat,
