Navy Officer Durrance part of fleet exercise Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Lance A. Durrance, son of Stanford E. Durrance of Perry, is participating in a major fleet exercise in the Western Atlantic Ocean aboard the aircraft carrier L)SS George Washington (CVN 73), homeported in Norfolk, Va., the lead ship in the USS George Washington Joint Task Group. The exercise, known as FLEETEX, involves more than 20 Navy ships and nearly 100 aircraft from all services. Approximately 13,000 sailors, Marines, airmen and soldiers are participating in the exercise, which is taking place off the southeastern Atlantic coast. FLEETEX features a relatively new concept for afloat forces-the use of U.S. Army and Air Force helicopters and special operations units operating from Navy ships at on incumbent U.S. Rep. Sanford ’ Bishop (D-Columbus). Those quali fying include: •Democrat James Bush of Al bany; and •Republican John Clayton of Woodbury. In addition to the recent surplus sale, Hay also said that the city is planning a public auction of several city-owned properties in efforts to culminate fund-raising efforts. As for the progress of construc tion at the Rozar Park site, Hay said that he expected construction crews to finish pouring the facil ity’s concrete flooring this week. After the concrete cures for a couple of weeks, the metal frame and skin of the facility should begin going up. The city hopes to take posses sion of the facility in November and expects to have it occupied in January of next year. p,.
