BPW officers installed
The Warner Robins Business and Professional Women's Club held its 29th Annual Meeting
at the New Perry Hotel on Thursday evening, April 29. The 1994-1995 State President of
BPW, Debra Bowlden of Griffin, far right, installed the following WRBPW officers f0r1994 -
1995: Nancy Kwiatkowskl, corresponding secretary, left; Betty Bowers, recording
secretary; Elizabeth Barnhart, treasurer; Barbara Shaheen, vice president; Kathryn Lane,
president. Barnhart was named the Ideal BPW Member for the past year. The club began
with 56 charter members in 1965 and only four charter members remain: Barnhart, Alice
Owen and Martha Gilmore, all of Warner Robins, and Pauline Lewis of Perry.

tion with 35 other students from
throughout Georgia for the title and
medallion awarded to the state
GOAL winner. First prize will be
a new car.

and faculty advisor Martha Wilson,
an associate professor of English at
Macon College who accepted the
Beta Alpha Continued Excellence
Award at the 76th annual PTK
International Convention in
Anaheim, Ca. The award is given
to PTK chapters that have attained
Distinguished Chapter status for at
least three consecutive years. Chi
Phi received the honor in 1992,
1993 and 1994, making it among
the top 25 chapters in the United
States.

O'Keeffe was one of the officiating
clergy. The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Drexel Shelton.
Jennifer Andrews of Perry was a
flower girl. The groom is the son
of Joanne Fanning of Perry. Karl
Evcridge of Perry was an usher
groomsman. After a wedding trip
to Freeport and Nassau, Grand
Bahamas, the Fannings are living
in Roswell.

who celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary with a reception given
by their children and a renewal of
vows April 30 at Northridge Baptist
Church. Byrd and the former Aline
Troup were married April 30, 1944
in Perry. They have two children,
Carlenc Byrd Hibbitts of Warner
Robins and Karen Byrd Bryan, and
four grandchildren.

Bill Hobbs, new golf pro at Perry
Country Club, arrived Monday,
May 2, to begin his new job. He
comes to Perry from Braelin
Country Club at Peachtree City.

ception for him and his wife on

The Ladies Golf Association of
Perry Country Club, held a card
party at the Clubhouse on Tuesday
night to raise funds to buy furniture
for the restrooms or other things
needed. Sixty-four ladies enjoyed
the party, refreshments from the
dessert table and floral door prizes
Another card party is planned for
the fall.

School as well as beautification
projects at both the local high
school and middle school are also
planned, Blackmon continued.
Although the board had indicated
in previous meetings that as many
as 150 Perry students could be
bussed to the two new middle
schools, Blackmon said Tuesday
that, after closer review, it looks as

wish to come earlier on Sunday.
It is planned that special music
will include guitar, piano and other
instruments. Initially, two lay per
sons, Jennifer Weeks and Sammy
Bowers, will be sharing the mes
sage time along with Rev. Gene
Bates, the pastor. Mrs. Carolyn
Shcarouse will lead the praise cho
ruses and Dan Waits, minister of
music and worship, will be the ac
companist.
This temporary early service is
planned for the next 12-18 months
as the church begins construction
on its new 18,000 square foot
Phase One multi-purpose perma
nent facility which is scheduled to
begin in June. This new facility
will be able to seat over 500 for
worship and will include space for
all Sunday School classes, pre
school, office complex, kitchen and
fellowship space.

vice’s workforce is expected to be
cut in half from approximately
46,000 to 23,000.
Locally, Robins Air Force Base
in Warner Robins will be losing
approximately 300 jobs when the
consolidated centers become opera
tional.
The existing sites to be retained

Sophie Groomed by Canine Cleaners
Sophia Alexias Strickland nicknamed “Sophie” is a 17 year old peek
a-poo. Sophie was born January, 1975. She is the daughter of Dr. &
Mrs. Ed Strickland. Sophie was one of five children, and the only
girl. Her father was a chocolate brown poodle and her mother was a
rust colored Pekingese. Her brothers were brown or rust and she was
taffy colored. Sophie now has two brothers, 6 years old Bud and 3
year old 8080. Sophie although not young is quite active in her
neighborhood. Her favorite past time is sitting on the deck and
watching the golfers go by while she eats her favorite ice cream
