Spring drills are important for a football team, giving players a chance to learn the system before the start of August practice. The only senior on the Panthers took home two of the three awards. Waldrip took home the trophy in recognition of the highest batting average, with an average of .410. He also was named as the team's MVP, after hitting five homers and knocking in 30 runs. Jason Brett won the golden glove award for his play at shortstop and on the mound. Keith Wimberly and Eric Richardson joined King and Felton as basketball honorees. Wimberly, who was named Middle Georgia Player of the Year by the Macon Telegraph, won most athletic award. Richardson was the team captain. The men’s basketball team was one of the more successful Panther teams in the 1993-94 school year. The Panthers won the 2AAA region crown, finishing the season with a 25 game winning streak at the Pan ther Pit. Taylor, Leggett and Fendley joined Jackson in the women's bas ketball awards. Taylor was named the most improved player, Fendley received the coach's award and Leggett was named M.V.P. Cheerleading is also starting to come into its own as a sport, fea turing many elements of gymnas tics. Tara Akridge was named the most improved cheerleader. In football, the M.V.P. award was shared by two players, King and Teruya Williams. Stacy Francis and Shawn Bass shared the best of fensive back award. Jason Dennard took home the best offensive line man award, while Jonathan Gilbert won the best defensive lineman award. Hill was named best defen sive back. Gann used his golf stroke to take home two of the four golf trophies, low medallist and M.V.P. Senior Woody Sundquist was named cap tain of the golf team, while Paul Smith took home the most im proved award. After going 0-19-1 the past two years, soccer enjoyed a good season, winning four games and tying one in 1994. Boris Nedev and Brian Mourning took home trophies as team captain, while freshman Richie Gill won the M.V.P award. It has made a difference in his play. "Boris has made up for a lack of height with hard work, strength and defense." King averaged 13.2 points per game for the Panthers and 8.5 Nike Tour, which is currently play ing in Macon. The purpose of the Hurricane Tour is to give up and coming golf professionals an alter native tournament should they fail to make the cut at the Nike Tour tournament. Unlike many tours, the Hurri cane tour does not charge admission for spectators, with purses coming from entry fees paid by the golfers participating in the event. Mills dominated the softball awards, taking home awards for best offensive player and M.V.P. Fend ley won her second trophy of the night, taking recognition as the golden glove winner. Katy McClin tic was named the most improved player, while Katherine Blount won the Lady Panther award. Three awards were given in the tennis program. Daniel Wright won recognition as the M.V.P. on the men's team. Jessica Brewer and Fendley took home the coach's award on the women's team. Hilary Smith was named the M.V.P. for the women. Two other thinclads won awards in men's track besides Felton and King. Wimberly took home the coach's award, while Hill took home the field event award. Only two awards were given in women's track, with Jackson being named most cooperative and Taylor getting the nod for M.V.P. Hill received his third trophy of the night in wrestling, winning recognition as captain of the wrestling team, a team that went 38-7 over the last three years in dual meets. Eric Felder came out for wrestling for the first time, and won the most improved award. John Rowland was the named the M.V.P. after a season that saw him win the state championship in the 171 pound weight class. boards per game.
