"I had a good string of birdies,"
said Freeman of his second day in
the tournament. "I was getting the
ball into position off the tee. The
greens can be tough, but I had some
good reads.”
Freeman said the key to playing
the course was good management,
noting that it was possible to over
hit some of the par 4s on the
course, while you had to get dis
tance on the par 5 holes.
Freeman's 61 was three strokes
better than his career best, which he
shot on the Canadian Tour.
Although Freeman narrowly
missed a national record with his
seven birdies in a row, he did set a
Hurricane Tour record for consecu
tive birdies, said Dara O’Neil,
founder of the Hurricane Tour. "It
was phenomenal round."
With the round Wednesday,
Freeman knew that he had the tour
nament in hand with a solid Thurs
day performance. "I knew that if I
stayed around par, or under par, they
(March and Smith) would have a
hard time catching me," he said.
The win in Perry marks the first
win for Freeman since the George
town Open in South Carolina in
October, 1992.
"I feel a lot better," said Free
man.
