Whiplash is defined as an injury to the cervical spine caused by an abrupt jerking motion to the head. Due to increased congestion on highways, power brakes and more powerful engines injuries of this type are much more frequent today. To fully understand what happens in this type of neck injury, it might be helpful to understand the mechanics of the neck. The neck is comprised of seven small bones known as the cervical spine.
