the Perry City Council during their
regular meeting June 7 to request
that the city raise its freepon tax
exemption to 100 percent
Freepon taxes are taxes that a
business or industry pays for goods
and other materials in inventory.
Currently, Perry exempts 20 per
cent of a company’s inventory from
freepon taxes. Increasing the ex

'We don’t even make the first
cut (for industries looking to locate
in Houston County ).’ said chamber
chairman John Sundquist. 'lf an in

a distribution center, our county is
not even presented to that industry
(because of freeport)."
Sundquist said that the Georgia
industrial development office had a
checklist of potential industrial
sites. For distribution centers, 'any
county is eliminated that has any
kind of freeport," he said.'We
would at least want the county to
make the first cut.’
Perry and Houston County could
also be losing jobs from existing
industries because of the freepon
