Perry an Ben Newberry was treated to a roast upon his retirement from Bluebird Co. recently. On May 26, co-workers, Blue Bird retirees, community and church friends, and Ben's relatives from as far away as Mississippi gathered in the Service Hall at the Fort Valley plant to toast (and roast) him and his wife, Mildred. An estimated 500 plus guests attended. One very special guest was Ben's mother, "Miss Dollie" Newberry of Henderson. While there, they attended commencement exercises at the University of Southern Engineering, said in his announcement of Ben's retirement, "If you're looking for the definitions of the words honor, integrity, gentleman and friend, they are Ben Newberry. He has given to the engineering profession and to Blue Bird a long and distinguished career of which he has every right to be proud." Ben and Mildred are planning a happy and full retirement, beginning with a cruise next week to Mexico. We all wish them the very best for their future. Mississippi, at Hattiesburg. The Clarks spent several days with their children prior to returning to Perry. m Lydia Cotton, granddaughter of Bess Edwards, will be serving as a summer missionary in Australia. Her appointment is to the Blackheath Baptist Church in Blackheath, New South Wales fo. approximately 10 weeks. Blackheath is a rural town of 13,000 people, located two hours west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains. The Texas Baptist Student Unions and the Baptist General Convention of Texas are providing the financial support for her trip. She requests your prayer support for this experience. m World Changers left Perry at 7 a.m. on June 11 for Orlando, Florida. Twenty-four students and seven adults from First Baptist Church will be joining eight other churches in doing renovation work in a low income housing project. A pup tent, equipment for cook ing and eating, sleeping, and fight ing, along with uniforms and other clothing, books about the war, and flags were on display. An 1863 model Sharps Rifle, Union issued (captured), was on display. Ricky Smith, Lt. James Thomas, Wade Hampton Harbin, Avery Allen, Mike "Outlaw" Thomas and Charles Jones were on hand to assist with the demonstrations and historical details of battles. DOG TAG NOTICE: In accordance with article II of the Perry City Code, notice is hereby given that all dogs within the city of Perry must be registered in the office of the City Clerk no later than July 1, 1994. Before a registration tag is issued, the owner or custodian must furnish the city clerk with a current inoculation certificate from a licensed veterinarian. The cost of each tag is SI.OO and each tag must be properly secured to a collar and worn around the neck of the dog at all times. Puppies must be registered by 12 weeks of age. Dog owners or custodians who shall violate the provision of Article II Dogs of the Perry Code shall be guilty of an offense against the City of Perry shall be fined accordingly.
