ALLTEL sponsors local ’Odyssey’ teams By PAULINE LEWIS Staff Writer Skip Dawkins, Perry Area Manager of ALLTEL Georgia, and Mr. Steve Hancock, ALLTEL Local Manager in Byron, recently presented a check for $250 to Mr. Tony Hinnant, Houston County School Superintendent, to be used as a sponsorship for Odyssey of the Mind Teams from Northside High School, and the combined team from Perdue and Bonaire Elementary schools. The teams participated in the Driving course for mature adults to be held in June Perry Hospital has joined with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) to offer a 55 Alive/Mature Driving course. AARP developed the eight-hour classroom refresher course to help drivers 50 years of age or older improve their skills and prevent traffic accidents. the first session of the course will be held June 23 and June 24, 1994 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The fee for the course is SB. For further information or to register for the course call 987-3600 ext. 405. The 55 Alive/Mature Driving Course is designed to meet the specific needs of older drivers. It covers age-related physical changes, declining perceptual skills, rules of the road, local driving problems, and license renewal requirements. Volunteer Instructors recruited and trained by AARP conduct the course, which is presented through a combination of slide presentations and group discussion. (All automobile insurance companies conducting business in Georgia are required to provide a premium discount to graduates of 55 Alive/Mature Driving, which is a state-approved driver improvement course.) Drumtra named to institute Dean's List Dwight Christopher W. Drumtra of Bonaire has been named to the Dean's List at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the Spring quarter. The Dean’s List recognizes full time students who maintain grade point averages of a 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 and have no grades be low "C." Drumtra is a senior majoring in Aeronautical Engineering. Lilley, from 1B Airborne School at Ft. Benning later this month and then the Officer's Basic Course in Armor at Lewis, Washington, where he will be an armor training officer for the 3rd Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division. Aaron's 2nd Lt. bars were a gift from a special Perry friend, Kathleen O'Neil Ltc. (Ret.) USAF NC who presented her 2nd LL bars to him as a gift at his high school graduation from Westfield Schools in 1990. Aaron was on the Dean's List for seven consecutive achievement of the best Armor War-Fighting Fitness project 1994. He has received invitations to be considered for future duty as a West Point faculty member of the Depts. of Civil and Mechanical Engineering and the Dept, of History due to his excellent cadet record and recommendations from nis instructors. , World Finals Competition held in Ames, lowa in June.
