Page 6A Wednesday, Jur» 22,1994 "Houston Times-Journal MGTI to offer CPR Course Middle Georgia Tech will offer an American Heart Association approved CPR Course A class. This 6-hour course is designed for those individuals who would like to be able to respond to an emergency situation where a victim is not breathing and has no pulse. The 6-hour course is scheduled to meet Saturday, July 9, 1994 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Class size is limited, applicants may register through July 7, 1994, 12 noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $45 including books. However, the first four applicants to pay will receive a $lO discount. Instructor is Tim Powell. REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FOR SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS The Houston County Board of Education is soliciting sealed proposals for bus driver physical examinations with the goal of selecting one North Houston County and one South Houston County provider or provider group.to do the exams and provide confidential exam information to the Board. Proposals will be received until July 5, 1994, at 2:00 PM, at which time they will be opened and publicly read. The cost per physical and the time required to make an appointment before the exam should be included in your bid. The State Department of Education furnishes a form that must be filled out listing the results of each examination an d the readiness of the application to safely operate a school bus. This and other pertinent information regarding the processing of the proposal may be picked up at the Warner Robins Bus Shop at 305 Watson Blvd. in Warner Robins (phone #929-7780) or the Board of Education office at 1211 Washington St. in Perry (phone #9BB-6200). County, from 1A- •An extra $70,000 is being left iri the purchasing department’s bud get this year for the removal of some old underground gas storage tanks in the county. Given that some other areas of the nation have had some tragic problems triggered by such underground tanks, Stafford points out that this project is not only critical, but also mandated. •An extra $90,000 or so needs to be plugged into the Houston County Tax Assessors budget to al low for necessary mapping upgrades and computerization of the system. •$140,000 is needed in the pub lic building budget for the repair of the roof at the state court building. •An added expense of $275,000 has been earmarked to begin paying for the new road to Middle Georgia Technical School. •The county’s share of the Perry- Houston County Airport has risen to $27,500. Stafford also added that he is looking at adding new positions to the Houston County Sheriffs De partment as, despite the continuing growth of the county, there has been no increase in staff size since 1990. At present, according to Stafford, there are only five deputies on patrol during any one shift, three in the north end of the county and two in the south. The addition of new positions will run around $70,000, but is needed, Stafford said.
