Perry D.A.R.E. students
invited to skating party
Perry Police Officer Bill Hathcock
announced this week that all Perry
D.A.R.E. students are invited to at
tend a skating party Monday, June
27 to be held from 7-10 p.m. at
Olympia Skate Center in Warner
Robins.
Cost is $3 per student and parents
are invited to attend for free.
S&E Sales burglarized
three nights this week
Perry police are investigating
three burglaries that occurred at
S&E Sales this week.
According to police reports two
vehicles were broken into on two
separate nights and a go-cart was
stolen from the property on another
night.
The details of each burglary are as
follows:
•A compact disc player values at
S6OO was stolen from a Mercedes
380 SI sometime between 6:30 p.m.
Monday, June 20 and 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday, June 21.
•Sometime after midnight the next
evening, a go-cart belonging to
Jerry Whitney of Perry Pawn Shop
was stolen from the property of the
car lot
Police report that the vehicle was
removed through a hole cut in the
fence surrounding the property.
•Another car radio, this time from
a Volvo, was stolen sometime be
tween Wednesday night, June 22
and Thursday morning, June 23.
Perry Police Captain Steve
Heaton said the local department is
making a concerted effort to keep an
eye on the area while investigating
the burglaries.
Although no arrests have been
made, and the go-cart was recovered
by Whitney, Heaton said the local
department is following several
leads.

tests from July, 1993 through June

City Council was faced with an
important decision to make this
week.
Who could replace Hay? Who
could run Perry City Hall? Who
else knows the ins and outs of this

Fish in ’ buddies!
Amy Roberts of Kathleen, the wife of Detective Leyon Roberts of the Perry Police
Department, says she enjoys fishing at the Rozar Park pond nearly every day during the
summer and has made a lot of friends In the process. Here, she treats one of her newest

Chamber welcomes new business

called a special meeting at which
time they pledged their full support
to Williams and all the department
heads.
"There are a lot of folks watching
us," Mayor James E. Worrall said,
"and we will move forward. We'll
all have to put forth a little extra ef
fort to make this community better
and show everyone this transition is

Several members of council stated
that brighter times are now ahead
for the city.
Worrall said earlier this week,
"We are very fortunate to have
someone of her Williams') caliber
already in her position to help us
through this transition period.
"No one else has the knowledge
she has of what Marion knew and
was doing as city manager.”
County surplus sale
to be held August 16

Approved by Houston County
Commissioners Tuesday night
during their regular bi-monthly
meeting, the sale has been
scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday,
August 16, at the county’s
purchasing warehouse on Kings
Chapel Road in Perry.
Among the surplus property to
be auctioned are:
•A Canon PC-25 desk top
copier,
•Four Zenith black and white
televisions;
•A GE turntable microwave
oven;
•One IBM personal computer,
•One Sampo AC-DC television;
•One Hotpoint air conditioner;
•A Curtis Mathes television;
•A Solid State weed eater

Dr. David Carter new
pastor at Crossroads
The church family at Crossroads
United Methodist Church, 1600
Main Street in Perry will welcome
a new pastor this week.
Dr. David L. Carter has been
appointed by Bishop Richard
Looney and the Cabinet of the
South Georgia Conference of the
United Methodist Church to serve
the Crossroads Church in Perry.
This appointment was made official
at the closing session of the
Conference held at the Wesleyan
College campus in Macon on
Thursday, June 16. Moving day for
all newly appointment ministers
across the Conference is
Wednesday, June 23.
Dr. Carter and his wife, Cindy,
are natives of Columbus. They
have two children, Christy Carter
Drawdy, who lives with her
husband, Jeff, in Macon. Christy,
a registered nurse, is on the staff at
the Medical Center of Central
Georgia in Macon. Their 20 year
old son, Brad, attends Macon
College and will be moving to
Perry with his parents. Mrs. Carter
is employed with the U.S. Postal
Service in Macon.
The Carters are natives of
Columbus having received their
early education there. They had
lived in Macon since 1975, moving
from south Texas where he pastored
and directed the Wesley Foundation
at Tarleton State University.
While serving in the Macon
District, Dr. Carter was
instrumental in relocating the old
Second Street United Methodist

The interim city manager has been
employed by the City of Perry for
over 16 years. During most of that
time, she's worked as an assistant
to Hay.
Williams' First position with the
city was a temporary one. She said
she was just filling in for a book
keeper who was on maternity leave.
Her employment became permanent
when the bookkeeper decided to stay

Revised fees for
garbage pick-up
approved by city
Revised garbage collection rates
for city residents were approved by
Perry City Council at their regular
meeting Tuesday, June 21.
The following rates have been
listed in the city’s solid waste
management code:
•Single family dwellings-$l 4 per
month.
•Duplex dwellings-$l 4 per moth.
•Multi family housing of three or
more units~sl4 per unit per month.
•Commercial with toters-sl9 per
month.
•Commercial dumpsters:
-Two cubic yards-$69 per month.
-Four cubic yards-$123 per
month.
-Six cubic yards-$176 per month.
-Eight cubic yards-$2lB per
month.

Dr. David L. Carter
Church and rebuilding it. It is now
the Wesley United Methodist
Church. Dr. Carter served this
church for six years.
The Carter family elected to
remain in Macon and have served
the Glenwood Hills UMC for the
past five years, and the Crawford
County Circuit the eight previous
years.
Dr. Carter was awarded the B.A.
degree from Southeastern College
in Florida. He holds the Master of
Divinity from Texas Christian
University in Fort Worth, Texas, as
well as the Doctor of Ministry. At
T.C.U., he worked in the
Philosophy Department as a
graduate assistant.
He currently holds the rank of
Major in the U.S. Air Force
Reserves and is a chaplain attached
to Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.
