Myth number two A second myth is that you can not work this bait in heavy cover or structure. Again, we have fished this lure in just about every type of structure you can find on a lake or river including underwater grave yards, bridge pilings, brush piles, both manmade and natural, rocks and ledges, and others. The trick to working this type of rig is all in the rigging and how you fish the structure. Let me ex plain. Let's say that you are fishing a rocky ledge that has a lot of large rocks on it. Always fish from shal low water to deep water. This gives you more control of the bait and more time for the bass to see what is following the little silt trail the lead wight is leaving. If you are fishing a brush pile, shorten up on your leader if you are getting hung up. Be "feel" conscious, in that if you feel a little resistance, bounce the weight just a little, and most of the time the weight and lure will ease right through the brush pile. Also, be prepared when you give this little extra bounce since this is prime strike time —set the hook without delay. To many times an angler will wait to see if it really was a strike or not. If you wait, it could be too late, and then you are hung up. Sometimes, the professional puts too much emphasis on the equipment needed in order to do some of these things. A top notch Carolina rig rod and reel will cost about $l5O. I'm not all that sure what makes a Carolina rigged bait work better than some of the others.
