AT&T donates to Red Cross for flood relief The AT&T Foundation announced today it will donate $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support flood-disaster relief efforts in Georgia. Additionally, McCaw Cellular Communications Inc. began shipping AT&T cellular phones to the affected areas on July 8 for use by Red Cross emergency teams, medical personnel, people staying at shelters and some military units. The agreement, signed in May, formalizes a long-standing relationship in which McCaw and AT&T rapidly provide free wireless and long-distance service, cellular phones and volunteers to aid the efforts to the Red Cross emergency response team during times of disaster. The Atlanta chapter of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers of America is providing volunteers to staff the Red Cross Flood Relief Hotline, organizing day-trips to aid with clean-up efforts, and collecting nonperishable food, bottled water, Hug-A-Bears and cash donations. AT&T Consumer Products is providing 100 phones for administrative use by the Red Cross in South Georgia.
