Democrat convention will
feature delegate elections
All supporters of the Democratic
Party of Georgia are encouraged to
participate in electing delegates to
the Democratic State Convention
by attending the local senate district
carcus set for Saturday, July 23.
The 18lh senate district caucus
will be held at 10 a.m. at the
Community Service Building
Auditorium, Lumpkin St. (across
from Opera House Hawkinsville.)
“I urge every Democrat in
Georgia to attend their local caucus
and elect delegates to represent them
at the state convention,” said Ed
Sims, Chairman of the Democratic
Party of Georgia. “This is a great
opportunity to get involved at the
grass-roots level and help shape the
future of the Democratic Party.”
Open caucuses will be held
simultaneously in each of Georgia’s
56 state senatorial districts. Fifteen
delegates and five alternates will be
elected from each district.
A total of 840 delegates and 280
alternates from throughout Georgia
will be named at the senate district
caucuses to attend the state
convention on August 13 at the
World Congress Center in Atlanta.
The purpose of the state
convention is to endorse
Democratic candidates, adopt party
policy and legislative platforms, to
amend the Charter and Bylaws, to
nominate and elect state Party
officers and Congressional District
Chairs, to consider reports from the
Convention committees, and to act
upon other matters as the
Convention deems necessary.
“The local delegate selection
process is an important opportunity
for people to make their voices
heard,” said Sims. Our state
convention takes place only once
every four years. With so many
contested state and congressional
elections, this year’s convention
may well be the most significant in
Georgia’s history.”
