What difference do they make in the appearance of Perry and in the attitude Perry's business people have toward the public? Many of the businesses in the downtown area are operated by women who greet customers as if they were guests in their homes. They provide a friendly atmosphere for browsing and shopping. They greet out-of-town customers as if they were old friends and provide general information about Perry, places to see in the surrounding communities, routes to take to various places, information on the antique shops, the Agricenter, schools, churches, places for fine foods and lodging. You name it, and they will either give the information, find it for you, or tell you where to find it. The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, Welcome Center, Perry Library, and various other places where information is normally dispensed, are operated by women. Four businesswomen in the downtown area, Barbara Jones, Murriel Meadows, Elizabeth Flowers and Anne Ratliff, gave the following information about their businesses: Card Carousel Hallmark Shop, located at 902 Carroll St., is a card, gift and collectibel shop which has been in business 17 years. Murriel Meadows has owned and operated it for the last 10 years, with Danease Sullivan serving as manager for the last six years. In addition to Hallmark merchandise, the shop specializes in collectibles, such as Precious Moments, Memories of Yesterday, Calico Kittens, All God's Children and Madam Alexander Dolls. At this time, Murriel's specialty is her handpainted porcelain dolls. She is also the creator of the official 1994 Cherry Blossom (Carolyn) and 1994 Dogwood Festival (Tiffany) dolls. ,g\ e°°V Houston Times-Joumat g .Ty- —W ... . flHßnSnßipP* /'**®L (L-R) Barbara Jones (owner of Jones Jewelers) Anne Ratliff (co-owner of Sue-Anne’s Doll Shoppe) Murriel Meadows (Card Carousel Hallmark Shop) and Elizabeth Flowers (co-owner of Impressions) are just four Perry businesswomen making a name for themselves in the Perry community.
