We felt very blessed when Byron came to work with u 5...” Mr. Maxwell co-owned the business with Mr. Etheridge until October of 1969, when the newspa per was sold to Lewis M. Meeks, G. Ogden Persons and Bobby Branch. “He was always smiling and al ways friendly,” she continued. “The community just lost a fine man. We’ll miss him.” And for one person, who asked that their name not be used, the im age of a man they knew will live on forever. “He was a fine southern gentle man, which is a rare commodity. His word was his honor. He was a man of few words, but an excellent neighbor. “He loved his wife, his church, and his country. He also loved Houston County. He accepted ev eryone around him when they were just themselves... “He and his wife never had chil dren, but they always loved other people’s... They were true givers, not takers...” '7/lcctek Your Hometown Department Store Perry Marketplace 1361 Sam Nunn Blvd. Mon.
