Beauty queens visit Ga. capitol The State Miss Georgia Peach Queens were recently invited to tour the Georgia state capitoi. While there, they toured the Capitol Museum and the Legislative Chambers. They also met with Lt. Gov. Pierre Howard and presented him with fresh peaches from Lane Packing Company in Fort Valley. Later the same day, the queens Top secretary Wanda Eckhardt, county secretary for the Hous ton County Farm Bu reau, won the Bth Dis trict Secretary Award at the district meeting in Montezuma Oct. 10. If Eckhardt is one of top four district winners, than she become eligi ble to win the top secre tary award in the state. Eckhardt is shown holding the plaque she won at the district meeting. "I love work ing in the Perry office," said Eckhardt on win ning the award. Lanes celebrte 61st anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Mose Lane Sr. celebrated their 61 si anniversary Aug. 20, 1994. The Lanes were both bom in Houston County. For the last 67 years, they have made dieir home in Grovina. The Lanes have six children: John A. Lane, Marie Kendrick, Doyle L. Daniel is the son of Joe and Betty Howell of Perry. The Rev. Jake Anderson officiated. Wedding music was provided by Kerri Hutchinson, vocalist and Barry Randolh, pianist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white bridal satin. The fitted bodice was embellished with lace medallions embroidered with pearls and sequins and featured an illusion yoke ending in a jeweled wedding band neckline and Gibson sleeves. A matching lace motif was featured on the skirt that cascaded into a semi-cathedral train. Noted author of childrens 1 books visits with Morningside students Laura Seeley, noted author/illustrator, visited Morningside Elementary School Tuesday, Oct. 18, visiting different classes throughout the day. During her visit to the school, students learned to draw a few illustrations. As a child, Seeley began drawing and was encouraged to write and illustrate children’s books, which she began doing at age 9. A native of Andover, Mass., she moved to Atlanta in 1980. Seeley received a bachelor’s degree in communication from the Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology. She worked in Atlanta as a free I ■fhß ? For the latter two books she was named Georgia Author of the Year in 1991 and 1993 by the Georgia Council of Authors and Journalists. Her most recent book is McSpots’ Hidden Spots. Seeley tries to create the same excitement in her books as those she remembers from her childhood. Her stories, in humorous rhymes, have been compared to those of Dr. Seuss.
