Pat Kahnle Adult Education Director 1 , ■ TESTING Students entering the Adult Education Program are given a placement test. This is not a test which is passed or failed. It is used because it identifies the instructional level, measures growth, and gives the teacher a basis for analysis of learning difficulties. TESTING TIMES You must have an appointment to be tested. Testing days and times are as follows: 8:30 AM Monday and Tuesday 6:00 PM Monday and Wednesday. ADULT BASIC EDUCATION This program serves adults who are functioning below the 9th grade level. Students move at their own pace in reading, English and math classes. Upon completion of ABE classes, students may enter GED or Adult High School classes. All classes at the Adult Basic Education level are provided at no cost to students. GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (GED) Classes are offered in English, essay writing, social studies, science, literature and math to help students gain sufficient knowledge to successfully complete the GED test. Classes are free. Students are not required to buy books. Those students who wish to take books away from the building may pay a deposit for them. Students need to be on the 9th grade level to begin this program. ADULT HIGH SCHOOL This program provides adults with an opportunity to earn an adult high school diploma. The program requires 18 units. Previous high school credit can be accepted. When registering, students need to bring an official transcript. Students must be on the 9th grade level to earn high school credits. Students must pay a deposit for books. Students residing outside of the Cobb County Public School System must pay a $50.00 tuition fee to enroll in classes for the Adult High School diploma. ADULT EDUCATION CENTER GIVE YOURSELF ANOTHER CHANCE . PERSONAL SATISFACTION • HIGH SCHOOL CREDENTIALS • RENEWAL EDUCATION • JOB READINESS SKILLS . GED • ADULT HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE This program is for international students who need to speak, read, and write the English language. Classes and materials are free to the students. These classes are offered at the FT Wills Educational Center, 2601 Ward Street, Smyrna. Call 514-3822 for further information. ENRICHMENT The enrichment program assists students to prepare for college and technical schools. Some students want clerical skills for employment or to increase their knowledge for personal satisfaction. Students pay a tuition fee of $3.00 per hour for enrichment classes and must purchase books for these courses. REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION Persons 18 and older can begin classes at any time. Sixteen and 17 year olds must be accompanied by a parent for their initial interview with a counselor. Cobb/Paulding County SDA 8 Adult Education program does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, handicapping condition, academic or economic disadvantage, or creed. SCHEDULE Adult Education classes operate on a year-round schedule. Students can enroll at anytime. Classes are scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9AM to 12 PM. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 6:30 to 9:00 PM. Individual class schedules may vary. GED TESTING CENTER GED testing is scheduled on Mondays from 1:00 - 4:30 PM and Thursdays from 1:00 - 9:00 PM. There is a $25.00 fee (cash only). You will need a valid picture I.D. and must be 19 years-of-age or older. Anyone under 19 please call 528- 6515 for details.
