Mustangs win two In a hard fought defensive battle, the Perry Mustangs defeated the Outlaws in Recreation football by a score of 14-0 Oct. 25. Armar Gordon scored both touchdowns for the Mustangs, the first coming in the opening stanza of play, and the second in the final quarter to seal the game. Ronnie Collier added the two point conver sion after the second Gordon score. The other Perry Rec ieam was not so fortunate as the Invaders came in and rode the Stallions 54- 14. Drummonds recommended Cornett to Principal Carl Peaster, who in turn presented it to the board of ed ucation. It was a good move. Cornett, a deeply religious man, is quick to tell you he could not have accomplished the success he has enjoyed without help. His first move was to ask his lord for good coaches and good players. Both prayers have been answered. Cornell and Drummonds, by the way, had coached together at Madison County in 1981 before their careers took them into separate directions. But they kept in touch, and when the opportunity came for Drum monds to reunite with his old frield, he did so. After a stint in the Marine Corps, Cornett has coached at Madison County, Pepperrel, Wayne County, Burke County and now Panthers, from 6A Monique Kendrick was the sec ond Perry runner, finishing with a time of 24:20, good enough for 17th. "But. I read the newspapers." And, because of what he knew, he predicted that the Hornets would have a tough time against teams like Stratford and Windsor, two of the top teams in G.I.S.A. After the tournament, the Hor nets got beat badly by both Macon schools. By the time that Westfield won another game, they had seen their record dip to 4-9. "Didn't I tell everyone that we would be better when the season was over with?" asked Sellers. And, they were, going .500 over their next 13 games to finish 10-16, in cluding wins over Windsor and un defeated Deerfield.
