The Galleria Mall in Centerville opened to the public Nov. 9. "I don't see a tremendous impact on local business," Williams said. "I think people who support our Perry businesses will support them after the mall opens." Williams said that people in the area who shopped at malls were al ready going to Macon, which is just over 30 minutes from Perry. She said that she would be much more concerned if she owned a shop in the Macon Mall than if she owned a shop in Perry. There could be a slight downturn in business immediately after the mall opened, said Williams, but that could be attributed to people being curious about a new thing. She said once the curiosity went down, shoppers would return to Perry. "Anything new, people go there out of curiosity," said Williams. Williams said that downtown businesses could do two things to mitigate the impact of the new mall.
