participate in
Career Day
For three hours Wednesday,
Nov. 9, every classroom at Perry
High School was filled with substi
tute teachers. But, instead of teach
ing reading, writing and arithmetic,
these “teachers” talked about being
doctors, lawyers, chefs and
plumbers.
From fanners to bankers and
engineers to athletes, more than 60
people from the Perry community
came and addressed students during
Career Awareness Day.
“The biggest challenge we face
is to prepare these young people for
successful careers,” senior coun
selor Hazel Jackson said. “There is
no better way to expose students to
career options than to bring busi
ness and community leaders, ex
perts in their fields, together to talk
with our students.”
Every student attended four 45-
minute sessions, each hosted by a
different presenter. Presenters dis
cussed such issues as job and educa
tional requirements, future trends
and the nature of their jobs. Fol
lowing each presentation, students
were able to ask questions and talk
with the presenters.
Presenters included local doctors,
lawyers, farmers, nurses, pho
tographeers, technicians, and repre
sentatives from civic organizations
such as the Rotary Club. One of
the more well-known visitors was
WMAZ-TV, Channel 13 weather
man, Bill Powell.
Jackson, the organizer ot today’s
event, added, “Our greatest resource
in America is our youth. We at
Perry High School try to expose
our students to diiffereut, viable ca
reer opportunities.”

The school’s student post office,

”We think ‘Wee Deliver’ is a
