Incoming State School
Superintendent Linda Schrenko was
in Perry Saturday conducting one of
a series of 12 town meetings over
the state. She dicussed plans and
priorities she hopes to put into
effect on Jan. 9. 1995, when she
takes office. She received 50.7
percent of the vote in the ixov. o,
1994 General Election, to defeat
Werner Rogers, and become the
first woman in Georgia to w'in a
statewide constitutional office. She
has set four goals for her term:
more parental control, more local
control for school systems, lower
teacher-pupil ratio, and safer
schools with more money for
alternative school programs.

The General Daniel Stewart
Chapter. Daughters of the
American Revolution, will meet at
12 o'clock noon today (Wednesday,
Dec. 14. 1994), at the New Perry
Hotel for their annual Christmas
luncheon. There will be a program
of Christmas music. Hostesses
are: Grace Cook. Louise Lawson
and Kay Allen.

Kiwanis Cash in on Pancakes
Willie Tyson, seated, collects payment for a pancake breakfast at the Perry Kiwanis
Club event Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Houston County Agriculture Building at Carroll
and Commerce streets. The proceeds from the breakfast will be used for local club
projects. Between 400 and 500 people were served and the club netted more than
$1,200. President Mike Drake said he was pleased with the turnout.

Bank Opens Office at Kroger Store
Beth Wood, third from left in foreground, manager of the Perry Kroger store, and
Donna Brack, manager of the Bank South office located in the store, share the
ribbon-cutting duties as the facility opened last week. Local Chamber of
Commerce, city and business officials helped with the opening.
