Death notices
Virgil P. Brooks
Virgil P. Brooks, 76, of 1013
Duncan Ave. died Thursday at his
residence. Bom in Sioux City,
lowa, he was the son of the late
Corbett C. Hazel Banner Brooks.
He hasi lived in Perry since 1942.
He was a Navy veteran who served
in World War II and was a civil
service employee, retired from
Robins Air Force Base. He was a
greens superintendent, retired from
the Perry Country Club. He was a
member of Perry Presbyterian
Church where he was a deacon,
Sunday School teacher and former
Sunday school superintendent. He
was a member of the American
legion and the Georgia Defense
Force. He was the widower of
Kathryn Brooks. Survivors:
daughter, Sandy Stokes of Perry,
and Sharon B. Herron of Atlanta;
four grandchildren; and a great
grandson.
Services: Were held 3 p.m.
Saturday, December 17 at Watson-
Hunt Funeral Home, Perry. Burial
was in Perry Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Jim Shipley officiated.
In lieu of flowers the family
requests donations be made to the
Perry Country Club Grounds
Beautification, P.O. Box 41, Perry

Cecil E. Pate
CORDELE - Cecil E. Pate, 70 ,
of 3623 Georgia 90 South, died
Friday at his residence. Bom in
Crisp County, he was the son of
the late John and Abbie Gibbs Pate.
He was an Army veteran who
served in World War 11. A lifelong
resident of Cordele, he was a retired
farmer. Survivors: wife, Ernestine
Pate of Cordele; children, Ann Pate
of Bartow, Fla., Patricia Named of
Poulan, Gayle McCard of Ashbum,
Cathy Freeman of Cordele, Deidra
Bodnar of Perry, and Danny Pate of
Cordele; sisters Bertha Nipper of
Cordele, and Lula Watson of Arabi;
12 grandchildren; and 10 great
grandchildren.
Services: Were held Friday.
December 15 at Dekle Funeral
Home in Cordele. Burial: Arabi
Cemetery. The Revs. Ricky Smith

ITNADILLA - Willie Clarence
Woods Sr., 61, of Route 2. Box
63. died December 9 in an Albany
hospital. Bom in Dooly County, he
was the son of the late Bertha West
and Willie Woods. He was a firmer
and a member of Camp Creek
Baptist Church. Survivors:
wife, Thelma Owens Woods of
Unadilla; children, Gloria Jean
(iilmore, Connie Jean Kelly, Willie
June Woods, Willie C. Woods Jr.,
Roy C. Woods and Gregory Green,
all of Florida, Theaphilus Woods of

Woodrow W. Cannady
PERRY - Woodrow W.
Cannady, 82, of 5778 Satterfield
Drive died Sunday, December 4 in
a local hospital. Born in Candler
County, he had lived in Macon the
past 42 years. He was a member of
Bellevue Baptist Church, the Senior
Couples Sunday School Class and
was a deacon. Survivors: wife,
Etta H. Cannady of Macon;
children, Johnny R. Cannady of
Wadley, William A. Cannady and
Julia C. Wagstaff, both of Warner
Robins, and Kay C. Hunnicutt of
Perry; sister, Eunice Lightsey of
Americus; 12 grandchildren; and 18
great-grandchildren.
Services: Were held
Wednesday, December 7 in Bellevue
Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry
Jones and Dr. Neal Wall officiated.
Odie Mae Stanley
PERRY - Odie Mae Stanley,
84, died Sunday, December 4 in a
local nursing home. Born in
Alexander City, Ala., she was the
daughter of the late Noland and
Amy Moody Maddox. She moved
from Peach County to Houston
County in 1955 and established
Stanley Furniture Co., of which
she was present for 25 years. She
was member of Perry United
Methodist Church and was tlu
widow of R. E. Stanley.
Survivors: children, Anne S.
Wilson and Ronnie Stanley, both
of Perry; sister and brother, Shirley
Westwood of Albany, and Marlin
Maddox of Fort Valley;l five
grandchildren; and 10 great
grandchildren.
Services: Were held Tuesday,
December 6 at Perry United
Methodist Church with burial in
the Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr.
Marcus Tripp officiated. Family
requests that contributions be made
to Bill Glass Ministries, P. O. Box
9000, Cedar Hill, Texas 75104-
9000.
Harold Eugene Lones
WARNER ROBINS - Harold
Eugene "Gene" Lones, 47, of 155
Elaine Drive, Lot 333 died
Saturday, December 10 in a local
hospital. Bom in Lima, Ohio, he
was the son of the late Harold Bliss
Lones. He had served in the Georgia
National Guard and was employed
by Robins Air Force Base as an
electronic mechanic. He had lived in
Warner Robins for the past five
years. Survivors: mother, Carrie
Lones Rodriguez of Perry, son,
Jerry Lones of Perry; sister and
brother, Linda Sue L.
Bilopavlovich of Bolivar, Tenn.,
Sheila L. Sweitzer of Marshallville,
and Terry Jones of Perry; and one
grandchild.
Services: Services were held
Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1994 at 2 p.m.

KATHLEEN - W.J. Young, 63,
of 215 Hunt Road died Sunday,
December 11 in a local hospital.
Bom in Houston County, he was
the son of the late William H. and
Annie Pearl Baucham Young. He
was an Air Force veteran and was
employed by Robins Air Force
Base. He was a member of Sandy
Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Sara Harris

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Airman
Ist Class William B. Westbrook
has completed Air Force basic
training at Lackland Air Farce Base
here.
Westbrook, a 1991 graduate of
Perry High School, was a basic
training honor graduate. He is the
son of William A. and Ellen
Westbrook, 1304 Rogers St.,
Perry.
NORFOLK, Va. - Marine Lance
Cpl. Kelvin B. Minor, son of
Charlie L. Minor of Perry, has been
serving off the coast of Boznia-
Herzegovina with the 22nd Marine
Expeditionary Unit.
Minor is one of almost 2,000
Marines and 1,600 sailors who were
ordered off the coast of Bosnia.
U.S. naval forces have maintained a
continuous presence in the Adriatic
Sea in support of United Nations
operations there since July 1992.
Minor and the Marines left the
U.S. in late October for a six
month overseas deployment on
board the USS Nassau, USS
Gunston Hall and USS Ponce.
The Marines are capable of
moving almost 500 miles a day and
sustaining themselves for months
at sea. With helicopters,
conventional landing craft and high
speed air-cushioned assault craft, the
task force can conduct a variety of
missions.
Minor, a 1991 graduate of Perry
High School, joined the Marines in
August of 1991.
