“The state has long-range plans to
widen 96 from 1-75 to 1-16 and the
county has 100 acres in that area avail

“The mental health move up there
makes good sense. They’ll take the
funds allocated for rent to make pay

partment of Family and Children Ser

from Warner Robins.”
Stafford said the economic outlook
for the county was good and he ex

continue bringing new jobs to the
county.
“There’s no doubt we have a net
work of government and the private
sector that’s equal to the best. This is
what makes it tick,” he said.
The announcement of expansion of
Perry Hospital’s labor/delivery and
outpatient surgery areas is the first of
what the hospital hopes will be a series
of good news announcements this year.
“As the primary health care pro
vider for Perry and south Houston
County, Perry Hospital looks forward
to expanding its programs and services
for the community during 1995,” Mary
Jane Kinnas, director of marketing for
the Houston Health Care Complex,
said. “The hospital is currently in the
process of implementing several new
services to begin the new year.”
Through a cooperative effort with
the Houston County Health Depart
ment and the Houston Count y B oard of
Education, Perry Hospital will provide
funding fortwolicensedpractical nurses
to work in Perry’s elementary schools
as well as supplies and equipment for
school health clinics.
The LPNs will work one half -day in
each of the four schools under the su
pervision of a registered nurse and will
assist in providing physicals and basic
health care for children.
“Additionally, Perry Hospital is

“Directed by a registered nurse, this

“Perry Hospital plans to continue
expanding its community health edu

in the Perry community. As the lead
organization for Safe Kids in Houston

Theeconomicoutlook for the county
is bright, according to Tim Martin,
executive director of the Houston
County Development Authority.
“It looks to me like Houston County
is a lot like the area north of Atlanta 10-
15 years ago. It’s ready to explode,”
Martin said.
“We are getting ready for solid
growth and expansion in 1995. We
have several prospects actively seek

and we are very encouraged.
"We hope to see several gains made
in this area,” Martin said.
If the cities of Perry, Warner Robins
and Centerville and the county govern
ment all work together, 1995 could be
a banner year for everyone.

During the eight-week program.

Day and other recruits also

Make resolutions work
January is a time many people
decide what things they want to do
better in the coming year. But it
also is an important time to look at
what you did well during the
previous year, according to a
Medical College of Georgia
therapist.
"Give yourself an honest appraisal
of those things you did well, rather
than just focusing on those things
you didn't accomplish," said Joseph
Fournier, assistant clinical
professor of psychiatry and health
behavior and an individual, family
and group therapist at MCG.
He suggests making two lists:
one of those things you would like
to accomplish in the coming year
and a second of those things you did
well in the last year. "It helps to
remember to focus on the positive,
not only on the negative aspects of
what you have done and in which
direction you would like to move,"
Fournier said.
It also is helpful to set smaller,
attainable goals rather than major
changes you're unlikely to stick
with, according to Fournier. Try to
set specific, positive goals and give

yourself a time frame.
For example, if last year you
resolved to lose 20 pounds, this
year try resolving to eat fruit rather
than sweets for dessert five times a
week. Rather than resolving to
exercise more, decide to park your
car one block further away from
your office and walk. Instead of
resolving not to let stress get to
you, try allocating 15 minutes of
your lunch hour for relaxation.
"New Year's resolutions, if you
decide to make them, aren't
generally a good way to go about
making major changes in yourself
or your habits," Fournier said.
"They can be useful steps toward
future goals down the road.
"If you resolve to change a little
habit, rather than to make sweeping
lifestyle changes, you're more
likely to succeed," he said. "Think
of resolutions as stepping stones
toward a larger, long-term goal. For
instance, if your goal is to keep in
better touch with friends who don’t
live nearby, your resolution might
be to write one quick note each
week. Then you might find, at the
end of the year, that it wasn't too
