Edna and Jewel Melvin, owners of The Perry Cafe
a native ot Milan,
Edna is a native of Asheville, N.C.
They met in California. She has
been Food Service Director at New
Perry Nursing Home for nine years
and is State President for the
Dietary Managers Association
They are members of First Baptist
Church, and golf at Perry Country
Club when they have time.
Edna will continue working at
New Perry Nursing Home and will
work at The Perry Cafe on
weekends. Jewel will work at the
cafe full time. He began work on
the renovation about December 1
and has worked almost day and
night to get ready for their opening.
Prior to starting the business, the
Melvins sent out 150 flyers and
had at least 150 replies (some from
husbands and wives on the same
flyer) The results were that almost
everyone wanted country cooking.
The top choices were fried chicken
and vegetable plates.
The cafe will seat 88 people at
three large tables and 16 small
tables. Fresh flowers will grace the
tables, when available.
