Atlanta trip pleases development board
By Jj JOHNSON
Times-Journal Editor
WARNER ROBINS
Members of the Houston County
Development Authority expressed
pleasure concerning the recent
legislative trip to Atlanta during a
meeting here Feb. 23.
Several Authority members
agreed with Perry Area Chamber
Chairman Rusty Wood in believing
the annual event, hosted by the two
chambers of commerce in Houston
County, was successful.
Authority members also
believed a visit they paid to the
Department of Industry and Trade
later that day was also beneficial to
the community.
There, DITT officials were
updated on industrial development
in the county and reminded that the
county and all incorporated
municipalities in it have passed a
100-percent exemption on
inventory taxes, a law known as
freeport.
Authority Chairman Steve Byrd
suggested that executive director
Tim Martin make plans for
Authority members to make
quarterly visits to the state officials
to ensure they remember Houston
County when discussing
prospective locations with new
businesses.
