Willie, Nelson know what to use
Seems like I was not used to the
way they do business at the Sports
Center when I wrote in this space
last week that no one there seemed
interested in talking fishing.
Jim Marchman called and told
me the Sports Center is set up some
where between a Sam’s and a large
retail tackle shop. The customer
makes his own selection and then
goes to the front counter. If you’ve
got any questions, the folks there,
especially Nelson and Willie, will
be glad to talk fishing around here.
So, Jim, Nelson and Willie (and
other fishing experts at the Sports
Center), I’ll know better next time.
And readers, the Sports Center
does have more tackle, and a wider
\ arien. than any retail tackle-out
doors store I’ve seen this side of
Bass Pro Shop.

Ray Noteware and his wife,
Kitty, who live on Frank Satterfield
Road in Perry, are folks who go
fishing just for the sake of fishing.
“We go whenever we can,”
Noteware told me last week. “It’s
time together we enjoy quality
time. Of course she usually catches
more fish than I do, but I usually
catch bigger fish.”
I didn't get a chance to get
Kitty’s side of the story.
Noteware said they go camping a
lot and usually try to go where they
can fish. Lake Sinclair is one of
their favorite destinations.
They fish the creeks and streams
around here. too. "We usually try to
go at least four or five times a
month,” he said.
Bass is his most sought-after
species, but they also try for bream
a lot. When they fish the creeks,
redtails can be found on their
stringers
While the plastic worm is his
lure of choice most of the time.

Another reader. Larry J. Watson
of Byron, took time to write in
response to last week’s column.
He enjoys fishing as a way to
relax and forget it all.
His favorite local fishing hole
was Mossy Lake, which went down

“It was really a hard lake to fish
and a hard lake to catch fish in. but
there were some MONSTER bass in
Mossy Lake,” his letter read.
He recalled one of his most
memorable outings on Mossy Lake.
It falls into the “the big one that got
away” category.
“I had been out on the lake for
about an hour w ith no success. I had
been fishing plastic worms of dii

on a crankbait. After a few casts. I
got what I thought was a strike. I

one of those “world record” memo
ries tucked away. Thanks, Larry, for
sharing yours.
How ever, Larry, the second letter

it before, only it was a hickory nut
