The BUG program recognizes students who Bring Up Grades from one grading period to the next. Hospital closes Sears purchase Houston County Hospital Authority officials, Friday, closed the sale of the former Sears building at Houston Mall. The 50,0(X) square-foot facility located on approximately seven acres of hind was purchased by the authority for the amount of $675,000 from Griffith and Associates, a real estate development firm based in Atlanta. Monies for the authority to purchase the facility were drawn from the authority's cash reserves. The authority is in the process Optimists honor essay winners Winners of the Perry Evening Optimist Club's 1995 Essay Contest and their parents were special guests of the club Feb. 16. This year's essay title was "Freedom: Our Most Precious Heritage: Entries were judged on material, organization, adherence to rules, vocabulary and style, grammar, punctuation, spelling and nearness. Abby Kakritz placed first in the local competition and second in the zone contest, which included participants from Warner Robins and Ft. Valley high schools. Christie Cook was second place in the local contest. Gamble Lewis placed third. The Uiree winners are 10th grade students at Perry High School and members of Elaine Stephens' advanced English class. Each student was presented with a medallion and participation certificate by club president D. Elaine Miller. Joint meeting The annual joint luncheon meeting of the Sorosis and Delphian Clubs was held at the New Perry Hotel March 9. The Delphian Club were the hostesses. Norma Cheek, program chairman of the Delphian Club, presented "Sport and Dolly," who gave a Christian comedic program using the "foibles of the older generation." "Sport and Dolly” are Gilbert and Blanche Branch of Ashbum, Cm. Dinner kicks off MGT Foundation Special to the T-J The Middle Georgia Technical Institute Foundation was officially kicked off recently with a dinner and meeting for the Foundation Board of Trustees. The board consists of 23 members from throughout Middle Georgia Tech's four-county service area. Among the trustees present were Elizabeth Bonaparte, Bob Cooper, Art Grady, Tom Hunt, V.W. McEver, Jr., LaVeme S. Norris, and Cohen Walker, all of Houston County; Ken Dattilo, Tim Dupree, William D. Moorehead, and Josiah Phelps, all of Peach County; Tom Arnold, Jeanette Ford, Bill James, and Genelle Jennings, all of Pulaski County; A.C. Daniels, Neil Joiner, Dan Speight; Harry B. Ward of’ Dooly County; and W.P. Thompson, Jr. of Bibb County. Members of Middle Georgia Tech's local board of directors were also in attendance. Art Grady, vice president and manager of the Aircraft Division of Northrop Grumman Corp.'s Georgia Production Site, said, "The contributions that Middle Georgia Tech has made to Northrop Grumman's progress have been very significant." Grady then presented a check from the Northrop Grumman Corporation as their initial contribution to the foundation. Donations were also made by the W. Mansfield Jennings, Jr. Charitable Trust and by W.P. Thompson, Jr. of engaging an architect and contractor team for the renovation of this facility which will be used as an outpatient medical center. Phase I of the renovation, which will relocate the Peachtree Med- Stop, Peachtree Counseling Center and Peachtree Sports Rehabilitation Center, is expected to be completed in late June. Plans for additional services and programs to be housed in this new facility are currently under way but have not been completed LEGAL NOTICE The Georgia Public Service Commission is considering the issue of IntnLATA Presubscription. Club News Pilot Club The Pilot Club of Perry met at the Evans-Cantrell House in Fort Valley Feb. 21. During the business meeting, Lynette Home and Patsy Home were inducted into the club. They received pins from president-elect Sue Fleming. Gail Soles was selected PIF Sweetheart. Caarol Bryant led a brief review of die club's history in observance of Founder's Day. The Pilots Club's next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., March 21, at Ochlahatchee Club House. Perry Kiwanis Dr. Gene T. Bowman was guest speaker for the Perry Kiwanis Club’s luncheon meeting at the New Perry Hotel last Tuesday. He spoke of his experience in becoming a Christian and his later years as a minister .and associational director.
