Duren Bell tells Rotary Club: 'Read the label' By Jj JOHNSON Times-Journal Editor Houston County Extension Director Duren Bell says the most important things users of pes ticides can do are reading the label and following the directions. Speaking to members of the Perry Rotary Club March 20, Bell said failure to follow instructions causes accidents and can lead to environmental damage. Reviewing the information included on the labels of pesticides, Bell said it was particularly important to follow the instruc tions concerning the quantity of the chemical applied. “It’s not like a little is good so a lot will be better,” Bell said. He cautioned users not to use the “glug, glug” method of mixing, but rather, to follow instructions carefully. Most homeowners use non restricted pesticides, Bell said. Restricted pesticides require com pletion of a course concerning pesticide safety. Chamber to coordinate community calendar By Jj JOHNSON Times-Journal Editor The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, responding to requests from members, has decided to coordinate a community calendar. According to Peggie Williams, president of the chamber, the calendar will be kept at the chamber office at 1105 Washington St. Portions of it will be published periodically in the Times-Journal to inform residents of upcoming events. Board of Directors member Paul Hicks said he hoped the calendar would help eliminate some of the competing activities which take place in the community. “This can help with long-term planning for events,” Hicks said. Persons wishing to either consult the calendar or add items to the calendar can contact the chamber at 987-1234. The decision to develop the calendar came March 16 during the monthly meeting of the chamber Potpourri engagement. Hospitalized: Rev.
