Saturday parade will weave through town

The 1995 Dogwood Festival Parade
will be a royal event.
Seventeen queens will ride in the
parade, including the five Dogwood
Festival queens.
“There are 42 entries in the parade,”
Gary Hamlin, Perry Fire Chief and parade
co-chairman, said. “We may have some
more sign up before noon Saturday#
That’s when the parade begins. It will
start at the Trendline plant (the old
Kellwood plant) and move east along
General Courtney Hodges Boulevard to
Carroii Sireet.
It will proceed east on Carroll to the
Post Office, where it will turn right (south)
Festival
games will start at 2:15 p.m. on the soccer
field behind the tennis courts. The cost will
be sl. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded.
Games for the kids will also include a
moonwalk, spaceball and a trackless train
on Huckaby Ballfield.
The best pets in the world will be fea
tured in the Festival’s Pet Parade that
begins at 3 p.m., the same time Cliff Patton
and Skeeter, will demonstrate balloon
sculpture and ventriloquism.

disband.
In addition to the five Miss Dogwood
queens, the parade will include Miss
Warner Robins, Miss State Peach, Miss
Westfield, Miss Perry High School, Junior
Miss Georgia Peach, Little Miss Georgia
Peach, Miss Georgia Peach, Miss
Northside High School, two Houston
County 4-H queens and the first Little
Miss Dogwood.
Television cartoon character Bart
Simpson will serve as the grand marshal.
He is being made available through assis
tance of WPGA-TV, the now broadcasting
television station which carries a Perry
identity.

Boys and girls of all ages can test their
basketball shooting skills, starting at 3:30
p.m.
The car show trophies will be presented
at 4 p.m. and the Festival will begin to
wind down to its 5 p.m. closing.
The Festival’s major sponsors include
the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce,
Weyerhaeuser, Northrop-Grumman and the
Georgia Cotton Commission. Coca-Cola is
the official festival beverage.

Marching music will be provided by the
Perry High School band.
Mayor Jim Worrall and all the city
councilmen will also ride in the parade.
Members of the Tucker Elementary
School Parent-Teacher Organization and
the Perry Newcomers Club will have floats
in the parade.
Among the equestrian units will be the
Peach County Saddle Club, with Houston
County Superintendent of Schools Tony
Hinnant scheduled to be among the horse
back riders.
