Perry High teachers honored
By PAULINE LEWIS
Society Editor
The Perry High School faculty,
staff, spouses and guests were
honored by the PHS Student
Council Monday night at the third
annual Teacher Appreciation
banquet. Lynn Asbury, Faculty
Advisor, assisted the students in
planning the event.
Held at the PHS cafeteria, the
banquet and a short program were
enjoyed by approximately 150
people.
Kaneatra Simmons, president of
the Student Council, presided.
Principal Phil Smith made a few
remarks concerning comparison of
the local school with others, and
the fact that PHS aid its faculty are
winners. He said that the schools
and faculty are scrutinized by the
public and media constantly.
"Students may not believe now
what they will be doing a few years
from now. Opportunities and
teachers will make a difference in
their lives - will make them grow
and mature. The schools do two
things: We school people and we
educate them. One of the main
reasons businesses want to locate in
Houston County is because of our
school system," Smith said.
J. R. Reynolds read an original
poem he wrote for the occasion
about homeroom teachers.
