Obituaries
Mitzi Moore Cameron
MACON Services for Mitzi Moore Cameron,
20, who died Nov. 16, 1996, were held Nov. 18 at
Porterfield Baptist Church with burial in Glen Haven
Cemetery.
She was bom in Macon and attended Southwest
High School. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, George Cameron;
mother and stepfather, Dianne and Ronnie Haines of
Macon; father, Larry Moore of Perry; brother and
sister, David E. Moore and Tara L. Moore, both of
Macon; stepbrother, Alan Haines; and grandparents,
Douglas N. Pierce and Archie and Eloise Moore, all
of Macon.
Rosa M. Chastine
MONTEZUMA Services for Rosa M. “Gloria"
Chastine, who died Nov. 13, 1996, were held Nov.
17 at New Hope Baptist Church in Montezuma.
She attended Macon County public schools and
was a graduate of Macon County High School. She
received a bachelor of science degree in elementary
education from Morris Brown College in Atlanta and
also studied at Fort Valley State, Georgia
Southwestern and Troy State universities. She was a
member of the Georgia Association of Educators and
for 18 years taught at Macon County Elementary
School.
Survivors include her son, Brandon Dewaun
Chastine of Perry; brothers and sisters, Annie Faye
Chastine of Neptune, N.J., Rosa Dean Chastine and
Vienell Aaron, both of Perry, Lanis Ranson and Jesse
Chastine, both of Atlanta, James Chastine of Garden
City, Leonard Chastine of Montezuma, and Jerry
Chastine of Columbus.
Maggie Knight Cravey
Services for Maggie Knight Cravey, 83, who died
Nov. 16, 1996, were held Npv. 18 at Memorial
Heights Church with Elder Gordon Buchanan offici
ating. Burial took place at Mt. Zion Methodist
Church at Milan.
A native of Telfair County, she had resided here
for 50 years. She was a retired waitress, widow of
Eschol W. Cravey and a member of Memorial
Baptist Church.
Survivors include sisters, Janette Dickey, Edna
Havens, Emma Thompson, all of Perry and Rosa
Jones of Eastman.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home had charge of
arrangements.
Luther P. Powell Sr.
OAK PARK Services for Luther P. Powell Sr.,
82, who died Nov. 9, 1996, were held Nov. 11 at
Pendleton Springs Baptist Church with burial in the
church cemetery.
Bom in Emanuel County, he was the son of the
late J.J. and Ava Youmans Powell. He was partner in
business with his brother for 42 years. He was a
retired merchant and farmer and was former post
master and justice of the peace in Oak Park. He
served on the board of the Department of Family and
Children’s Services for 24 years for Emanuel
County. He was a member of Pendleton Springs
Baptist Church where he was a deacon and also trea
surer for 16 years. He also was a Sunday School
teacher and trustee emeritus.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Findley
Powell; children, Pete Powell of Milledgeville, Joe
Powell of Knoxville, Tenn., Keith Powell of
Kathleen, and Mike Powell of Oak Park; sister,
Bernice Bradford of Swainsboro; five grandchildren;
and a great-grandchild.
Eddie B. Shazier
CORDELE Services for Eddie B. Shazier, 79,
who died Nov. 11,1996 were held Nov. 16 at Greater
Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church. Cordele, with
burial at Bethel Cemetery.
Bom in Wilcox County, he was the son of the late
Kinzie and Ellen Jeffery Shazier. He was a member
of Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church, where
he served on the Deacon Board. He was treasurer of
the Benevolent Society and was a retired truck dri
ver.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Shazier; son,
Freddie C. Smith of Atlanta; sister. Aretha Parker of
Perry; six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and
four great-great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth H. Crumley
KATHLEEN Services for Elizabeth Hanson
Crumley, 79, who died Nov. 14, 1996, were held
Nov. 17 at Jackson Funeral Home with burial in
Woodbine Cemetery.
Bom in Clarke County, she was the daughter of
the late David W. and Mary Blackstock Hanson. She
was a cloth inspector at Milliken Co. in Gainesville,
and was a member of the Congregational Holiness
Church.
Survivors include her husband, Richard C.
Crumley; children, David Crumley of Bonaire,
Dickie Crumley of Kathleen, and Marion Roberta
Carruth and Annette Shields of Warner Robins; eight
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Kolon Everett Parsons
Services for Kolon Everett Parsons, 83, who died
Nov. 14, 1996, were held Nov. 17 at Woodlawn
Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Carter officiating.
A native of Ben Hill County, and a former resident
of Macon, he had resided here for 19 years. He was
a retired Dry Wall Contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Parsons; sons,
Everett Parson of Macon, Verlon Parsons of
Jacksonville, Fla., Joe Parsons of Miami, Fla.;
daughter, Judy P. Pullen of Pompano Beach, Fla.;
stepsons, Charlie Potter of Chesapeake, Va. and
Bobby Potter of Jonesboro; brothers, Zeb Parsons of
Fitzgerald and Sammie Parsons of Oxford, N.C.; ten
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

FORT VALLEY Services for Lillian
McClendon Rogers, 71, who died Nov. 9, 1996, were
held Nov. 14 at Belvin African Methodist Episcopal
Church, Marshallville, with burial in the church
cemetery.
She had attended Macon County public schools
and was a domestic worker and a member of Belvin
AME Church.
Survivors include her husband, Willie James
Rogers of Perry; daughter, Rosa Willie Harvey of
Fort Valley; brother and sisters, Eugene McClendon
of Atlanta, Constance McGhee, Liza McGhee and
Annie Maude McClendon, all of Fort Valley.

Cemetery in Perry.

Catholic Church in Macon.
Bom in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a veteran of
WWII Marines.

Poelman Phillips; children, Kathleen P. O’Neill and
Kevin Phillips of Fort Valley, Barbara J. Grant of
Charleston, Patricia J. Meade of Chandler, Ariz.,

A native of Meridian, Miss., he was the son of the
late Cecil G. and Ada Burks Newton Sr. He was
retired Chief Engineer with the Houston Medical
center, former member of the American Legion 40
and 8 Society, former president Georgia Power
Engineers Association, life member 2nd Armored
Division Association and a member of Trinity United

Survivors include his wife, Lorene H. Newton,
