Akikta club members learn about juvenile court caseloads
Members of the Akikta Club
held their monthly meeting Nov.
5, at the Ochlahatchee Club
House.
The program was given by one
of the club’s members, Sandra
McGowan, who is also Clerk of
the Houston County Juvenile
Court. She said statistics show
that in 1994 there were 2,471
Juvenile Court cases; in 1995,
there were 2,196 and to date for
1996, there have been 1,843.
The club’s fund-raising com
mittee finalized their plans for
members to wrap gifts on Fridays
and Sundays, beginning Nov. 29
through Dec. 22, at the Peach
Outlet Mall. The location will be
in the old Paper Factory store
front.
Plans were also completed for
the Christmas Party to be held at
the club house Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. •
Refreshments were served by
the hostesses Vivian Hawk,
Lillian Posey and Ruby Jackson.

The Balvaunuca Club of Perry
will sponsor “Holiday
Traditions” a series of workshops
for decorating and entertaining
during the holiday season, on
Dec. 7, in conjunction with the
Christmas at the Crossroads
Celebration.
“Decorating for the Holidays,”
presented at 10 a.m., will offer
creative ideas on designing floral
arrangements, wreaths, topiaries
and other decorations using natur
al greenery for the Christmas sea
son.
At 2 p.m., “Christmas
Entertaining and Gift Giving,”
will offer ways for entertaining
and gift giving during the holiday
season, featuring ideas for festive
table settings, elegant hors d’oeu
vres, menus, gifts from the
kitchen and more.
Both workshops will be held at
the Perry United Methodist
Church Fellowship Hall. The cost
is $lO for one workshop or sls for
both workshops. Tickets may be
purchased at Crossroads Insurers,
Impressions, or from any member
of the Balvaunuca Club. For more

Perry artist Gloria Ragland,
will be displaying her original
watercolors in the dining room of
the Houston Lake Country Club
for several weeks during
November and December.
This is her eighth annual art
show at the club.
The exhibit is open for public
viewing during the club’s regular
hours. Her annual show and
reception will be held Nov. 23.
with a cash bar, heavy hors d’oeu
vres, and live entertainment. Door
prizes and drawing for original
piece of her artwork. Reservations

Mabel White Baptist Church in
Macon celebrated its 90th
anniversary Nov. 17. Services
from that church have been broad
cast over WMAZ-TV for many
years to this area. The Rev. Jimmy
Waters, pastor for 31 years, and
his family, were present, and he
spoke and his family sang. He has
held revival services at Perry First
Baptist Church in the past. The
Rev. Stephen N Johnson is pastor
of Mabel White, which is sched
uled to move to a new location to
accommodate its growth.

Balvaunuca Club members are
selling Christmas ornaments fea
turing the recently renovated
Houston County Board of
Education building (old Perry
High School building) in down
town Perry. ">■
Nancy Whiddon, club presi
dent, and Elizabeth Flowers, club
member, presented the first orna
ment to Tony Hinnant, Houston
County Superintendent of
Schools, whose office is in this
building.
These limited edition orna
ments are hand-painted and are
available for sls each at
Impressions in downtown Perry.
Proceeds from the sale of these
ornaments will be used by the
Balvaunuca Club for service pro
jects in the Perry community.

The Pilot Club of Perry will
hold a holiday fashion show and
dessert party at 7:30 p.m.,on Nov.
21, at the Northrop Corp. dining
room.

coordinator for the show of fash
ions from The Tog Shop and

Sharing Elegance.
Gail Soles, president of the
club, will'narrate the show that
will feature models selected by the
merchants.
Using the “Olde Perry” theme.
Pilot Club members will prepare
desserts from recipes from the
“olden days.” There will also be a
Christmas tree decorated with
period ornaments that will be raf
fled.
The Pilot Club of Perry is an
active group, supporting such pro
jects as the Perry Pregnancy
Center, Meals on Wheels, Camp
Can-Do and others. All money
raised at the party will benefit
these projects.

Honors nominees.
To Tommasina Marlow and
Steven Lash, both of Atlanta, who
were married Oct. 26 at Ocmulgee
National Monument.
The bride is the daughter of
Doris and Kenneth Marlow of
Kathleen The groom is the son of
Sandra and Jon Lash of Orlando,
Fla. A reception was held at
Beall’s 1860. After a wedding trip
to Cancun, Mexico, the Lashes are
living in Atlanta. •
To Mr. and Mrs. Jack H.
Hancock of Perry who celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary
with a luncheon given by their
children Oct. 26 at the New Perry
Hotel. Hancock and the former
Betty McDaniel were married Oct.
26, 1946, at the home of the bride
in Thomaston
Hancock is retired from Robins
Air Force Base and his wife is
employed by Houston County
Public Schools . Both axe members
of Rehoboth Baptist Church.
Their children are Miriam
Timmerman of Knoxville, Tenn.,
Carol Gordon of Jacksonville,
Fla., and Harvey Hancock of
Warner Robins. They have three
Houston Times-Journal
grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Scarborough
Watson celebrated their 50th wed
ding anniversary with a family
gathering at their home given by
their children Nov. 16. Watson and
the former Lois R. Hutchinson
were married Nov. 14, 1946, in
Perry.
Watson and his wife are retired
from Robins Air Force Base. Their
children are Dewell Watson of
Kathleen and Doug Watson of
Clarksville. They have three
grandchildren.
