Notice to the Public
You are hereby notified that, pursuant
to O.C.G.A. 20-2-260, on the 10th day
of December, 1996, at 3:00 p.m., and on
the 17th day of December, 1996, at 7:00
p.m., at the Houston County Board of
Education office in the City of Perry,
Georgia, there will be public hearings
held regarding the Houston County Board
of Education's proposal to close the pre
sent Perry Middle School located on
Sunshine Avenue in the City of Perrv,
Georgia. Students attending Perry Middle
School will be re-assignea to the new
Perry Middle School to be built upon prop
erty owned by the Houston County Board
of Education on the Perry Parkway in the
City of Perry, Georgia. The new Perry
Middle School will be designed to accom
modate approximately 1,000 students
and house grades 6, 7 , and 8. The total
cost for construction of the new Perry
Middle School will be approximately
$9,000,000.00 which is subject to modi
fication, up or down, upon the receipt of
bids for construction.
Funding to build the new Perry Middle
School shall be from the Bond Referendum
of September 17, 1996 and the general
funds of the Houston County Board of
Education, if necessary. State funds to be
used towards the construction project will
amount to approximately $738,123.00.
Plans for the use of the old Perry
Middle School may include the use of the
facility as: a magnet school, a pre-kinder
garten center, an alternative school or a
non-school use by another governmental
agency.
Formal written comments will be
received and considered by the Board of
Education regarding the system's organi
zational pattern or school sizes if made no
later than December 17, 1996 at 7:00
p.m. Any citizen desiring to give public
comment with regards to the matters con
tained in this notice may do so at the pub
lic hearings which are set forth above.
