Noletie Holcomb
CENTERVILLE Services for Nolene
Holcomb, 59, who died Nov. 21, 1996, were held
Nov. 24 at Parkway Memorial Gardens.
She was bom in McMinnville, Tenn., and was the
daughter of the late Ira Delaney. She was retired from
Anchor Glass, where she worked in quality control.
Survivors include her husband, Noah Holcomb;
children, Rhonda Kay Holcomb of Kathleen, Belinda
Wootton of San Antonio, Texas, and Teresa Holcomb
and Charles Ray Holcomb, both of Warner Robins;
mother, Flora Delaney of Hixson, Tenn.; brother and
sister, James Edward Delaney of Hixson, Tenn. and
Coleen Wallace of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and two
grandchildren.
Mabel McMichael
MONTICELLO Services for Mabel
McMichael, 73, who died Nov. 20, 1996, were held
Nov. 23 at Monticello United Methodist Church with
burial in West View Cemetery.
She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and
was a supervisor at Oxford Industries. She was a
member of Monticello United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children, Terry McMichael
of Monticello, Bonnie Bryant of Perry, and Dianne
Davis of Eatonton; mother, Myrtice Womack of
Monticello; brother and sister, Coy Womack of
Sparta, and Mildred Bowden of Monticello; and eight
grandchildren.
Jessie Mae Golden
Services for Jessie Mae Golden, 82, who died
Nov. 22, 1996, will be held Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. at St.
James CME Church with burial at Woodland
Cemetery.
Bom in Hampton, S.C., she was the daughter of
the late Washington and Curlee Garvin and the
widow of the Rev. H.P. Golden. She was a former
employee of the Houston County Board of
Education. She was one of the oldest members of St.
James CME Church, where she was former president
of the Missionary Board. She was also a member of
the Central Georgia Conference CME Ministerial
Alliance Association and the Fort Valley-Savannah
District Missionary Society.

Houston County commissioners
approved a master development
plan for the Houston Central
Complex and office/recreational
development of 125 acres of coun
ty property located off Ga. 96 dur
ing their regular session Nov. 19.
This includes plans to lease
approximately 50 acres to private
recreation programs such as the
Central Georgia Soccer
Association, The Little League
and the Aquanauts for $1 per year.
Commissioner Larry
Snellgrove presented the plan,
saying that he believes private
organizations in Houston County
have shown they are able to suc
cessfully operate recreational pro
grams.
One stipulation in the agree
ment for use of the complex is that
children should not be discrimi
nated against because of race, sex,
religion or the inability to pay
annual fees for service.
Also during the meeting, the
group adopted a resolution allow
ing construction of a 32,000 square
foot Department of Family and
Children’s Services building off
Ga. 96, in the general location of
the land designated for recreation.
In other business, commission
ers OK'd a resolution providing
for the levy and collection of
annua! ad valorem tax for payment
on the Houston County school sys
tem’s 1996 general obligation
bonds, presented by school board
attorney Billy Jerles.
Jerles told the group that if the
school sales tax referendum passes
in March next year, the current one
mill levy for school bonded

Juveniles apprehended
after high speed chase
A high speed chase Nov. 19
ended in the apprehension of two
Ohio juveniles after they aban
doned an Oldsmobile near Elko.
According to Georgia State
Patrol trooper Wayne Wiley, he
attempted to stop the Oldsmobile
after clocking the vehicle traveling
over the speed limit on Interstate
75.
Wiley said that instead of stop
ping, the driver, a 16-year-old
male, exited the interstate at Exit
42, then traveled Larry Walker
Parkway to Elko Road.
Once on Elko Road, the youth
drove at speeds 100 mph in an
attempt to elude the trooper, said
Wiley.
The vehicle chase ended near
Ga. 26 when the driver stopped the
car and both he and the passenger,
a 15-year-old female, ran into a
nearby wooded area.

Services for Charles Allen Hardy, 46, who died
Nov. 24, 1996, were held Nov. 26 at Heritage
Memorial Funeral Home with burial at Westview
Cemetery in Monticello.
Bom in Monticello, he was the son of the late Paul
Hardy.
Survivors include his wife, Linda P. Hardy; son,
Charles Allen Hardy Jr. of Warner Robins; mother,
Emily Pitts Hardy of Kathleen; sister and brothers,
Cathy Hardy Boyt of Kathleen, Ricky Hardy of
Crawford County, and Mike Hardy of Monticello;
and one grandchild.
Frederick G. 'Fritz' Volz Jr.
Memorial services for Frederick G. ‘Fritz’ Volz Jr.,
who died Nov. 23, 1996, will be announced at a later
date.
Bom in New Holland, Ohio, a son of the late
Frederick G. and Sadie Ann Volz, he was a U.S.
Army veteran of WWII and was retired as an expe
diter for the Air Force, a member of Messiah
Lutheran Church of North Ft. Myers, past patron of
the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Free and
Accepted Masons, a nobel of Araba Temple of Ft.
Myers, a life member of D.A.V.
He and his wife of 46 years, Levora, have lived in
the local area since 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Levora Volz; son, F.
Howard of Ohio; two grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.
The family requests that memorial contributions
be made in his memory to the National Parkinson’s
Foundation, Inc., 1501 NW 9th Ave., Bob Hope Rd.,
Miami, Fla. 33136-1494.
John Logan Gallemore
Graveside services for John Logan Gallemore, the
The male was apprehended
soon after; the female was appre
hended after 911 received a call in
reference to a suspicious person in
a yard on Ga. 26 a couple of hours
later at 2:30 a.m. and county
deputies found that person to be
the one they had been searching
for.
Sgt. Karen Stokes, who is with
the county juvenile division, said
the pair has been sent back to
Ohio, where they were being
sought as runaways, for a deposi
tion.
The driver will face multiple
traffic violations, along with car
theft, she said.
Council to meet Dec. 12
The Perry City council meeting
scheduled for Dec. 10 has been
rescheduled to Dec. 12 at 7:30
p.m. at the Perry Municipal
Courtroom at 1207 Washington St.
City, county officials study
recreation needs
At press time, Houston County
officials, along with officials and
representatives of local municipal
ities, were meeting in Warner
Robins to discuss the possibility of
forming an Authority to oversee
recreational activities.
Perry Mayor Jim Worrall said

Warner Robins city council mem
ber Dean Cowart asking for he and
other Perry representatives to be
present to discuss the possible for
mation of an athletic authority.
The meeting was scheduled to
take place at 6:30 p.m. at Warner
Robins City Hall.

Johnson City, Tenn.; and great-grandmother, Mrs.
Eloise Gallemore of Perry.
George Eugene Sanders
Graveside services for George Eugene Sanders,
62, who died Nov. 20, 1996, were held Nov. 22 at
Perry Memorial Gardens.
A native of Columbus, he had resided here most of
his life. He was retired owner and operator of Sanders
Shoe Repair Shop in Warner Robins for 35 years. He
was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He is
preceded in death by his father, Roland C.Sanders.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Sanders;
mother, Mary Sanders of Warner Robins; daughters,
Lisa Blocker of Byron and Tacha Smith of Macon;
stepsons, Van Mark Smith of Dallas, Texas, Milo
Elmer Smith of Macon, Dihl Lorent Smith of Elko,
Todd Myron Smith and Darrell Baldwin of Byron,
Lloyd Nyle Smith of Warner Robins, Bobby Baldwin
of lowa, La.; stepdaughter, Monta Clotine Smith of
Byron; 22 grandchildren.

Sarah Collier Lawson
Services for Sarah Collier Lawson, 74, who died
Nov. 19, 1996, were held Nov. 23 at First Baptist
Church of Perry with the Rev. Dr. John Yarbrough
officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she grew up in
Comer and had resided in Perry 50 years. She was a
retired bookkeeper for the City of Perry, held a B.A.
degree from the University of Georgia, was the
widow of Powers Cooper Lawson and the mother of
the late Lynn Lawson Back. She was an active and
dedicated member and Sunday School teacher for
many years at the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Dr. David Lawson of
Decatur and Richard Lawson of Gaithersburg, Md.;
sisters, Mildred Porterfield of Colbert, Dorothy
Hardy of Perry, Virginia Mac Neal of Moorestown,
N.J.
