Candlelight service is Dec. 1

When James McKinley
was mayor of Perry in the
mid-70s, the first old-fash
ioned Christmas-at-the-
Crossroads Celebration was
held in Perry.
Perryans still gather as a
community, to hold candle
light services on the Court
house Square on the first
Sunday in December.
Sponsored by the Perry Min
isterial Association, the service
will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.
Members of participating
churches will leave their
churches about 6:30 p.m,
with lighted candles in their
hands, walking along the
candlelit streets and
singing Christmas carols
until they reach the Court
house Square.

tion, will preside. Other pro
gram personalities include
Perry Mayor Jim Worrall,
Jeff Candell, assistant pas
tor of Perry Presbyterian
Church, John Davis, music
director at Houston Lake
Baptist Church, the Perry
Middle School Chorus and
the Rev. Willie King.
Ministers in the audience
will come forward to their
candles lighted.
In turn, they will go about
the audience lighting can
dles, and those with burn
ing candles will light others.
The Perry Area Historical
Society, with the help of Boy
Scouts D.A.R.E. students.
Perry Policemen and Fire
men, and city employees,
place the candles along
sidewalks leading to the
courthouse square.

Dec. 7 among busiest days of
Crossroads Christmas celebration

On Dec. 7, just plan
to spend the day
in Perry!
It is a day loaded with
things to do.
The Perry Kiwanis Club
Pancake breakfast starts
the day at 6:30 a.m. It is
held at the Ag Extension
Office at 733 Carroll St.
Cost for the breakfast is
$3.
The Balvaunuca Club
will show visitors how to
create their own holiday
decorations during a
workshop. They will teach
those attending how to
make holiday wreaths,
topiaries and other things
with natural items found
in most backyards.
This is a two-part work
shop with the second part
involving learning holiday
cooking and entertaining
skills. Cost is $lO for one
or sls for both. For more

At 2 p.m. it’s the mo
ment kids of all ages wait
for when this year’s
Christmas Parade begins.
The route for this year
begins at Kellwood Drive
and ends at the Eastgate

story, along with a dramat
