Picks
Miller County racked up 70
points against what was supposed
to be a strong Monticello team to
advance to round two. The Pirates
will be at Charlton County. This
will be an allout war. Ronnie
McNease is a good football coach,
and he will have his team ready. It
will be a long trip from Colquitt to
Folkston, but a shorter trip back
after a Miller win.
Crawford County has advanced'
to the second round for the first
time since who knows when. The
Eagles meet the number three
team from 7-A, Mt. Zion of Carrol
County, in Roberta Nov. 29. The
Mt. Zion Eagles lost twice during
the regular season, but beat the top
seed Bowdon. Look for Crawford
to advance one more step.
Americus continues to roll
along. Their meeting this week is
with region 2-AA number two
seed Tattnall County. The
Panthers will continue, and con
tinue to play at home.
Richmond Hill, the top teem in
2AA, will face a tough
Thomasville team that’s making
the switch from AAA to AA this
year, under a playoff-wise coach
in Jack Johnson. Richmond Hill is
a great basketball school trying to
make its mark in football.
Thomasville derails them.
A triple-A matchup that bears
watching is Crisp County at
Thomas County Central. Ed
Pilcher’s Yellow Jackets always
play tough in the playoffs, while
Crisp made the semifinals last
year and returns a lot of veteran
players. In a mild surprise, look
for Crisp County to advance.
Peach County will be at home
to Dougherty of Albany. The
Trojans beat Monroe the last game
of the regular season to claim the
second seed in 1-AAA then beat 4-
AAA Riverdale Nov. 22. It will be
a battle of Trojans in Fort Valley.
The home town Trojans win.
