Wylene Grace Darden receives Cal-Poly service award
Former Perryan Mrs. Wylene
Grace Darden of Pomona, Calif.,
daughter of Velva Grace and the
late George Grace, was recently
awarded a service award pin, cel
ebrating 20 years of service at
California Polytechnic University,
Pomona, Calif.
Darden serves as only Afro-
American International Analyst at
Cal Poly.
Since 1973, the service awards
ceremony has been a tradition of
Cal Poly and is one of the high
lights of the fall convocation. It
has support from the Academic
Senate Foundation, Staff Council
and the University.

This year, 18 ladies,Autumn
Terrace residents, participated in
the Salvation Army’s annual
Christmas teddy bear drive.
Undecorated bears from the
Salvation Army were dressed up
in a variety of outfits for gifts to
youngsters for the holidays.
Approximately 30 bears have
been dressed and displayed and
are ready to make some little boys
and girls happy on Christmas
mom.

Appearing at the New Perry
Nursing Home on Nov. 21 was
part of the Exciting Tour of the
Original Nashville Sound band .
Among those appearing were The
Strings of Nashville, The Leon
Ashley Show, Dean Mathis of
“The Newbeats”, Lonnie Spiker,
Nashville’s Pete Cooper, champi
onship fiddler, Smiling Ed
Newsom and Margie Singleton.

Michael Unrue, author and
playwright, will be making two
appearances in this area on Dec.
14. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Unrue
will be at the Perry Bookstore.
From 2-4 p.m., he will be at
Books-A-Million in Bloomfield
Village, Macon.
Unrue is author of “Don’t
Count That Chicken ‘til your fin
gers need lickin’’, and the play,
‘Actresses”, which opened at
Greenwood S.C.’s Little Theatre
and was termed a winner exact
ly right from start to finish.
Unrue is from Easley, S.C. On
the jacket of “Chicken”, Unrue’s

Commerce has 300 limited edi
tion, signed, and numbered prints
of Perry, featuring five Perry land
marks. The print is a 14x11-inch
pen and ink sketch by lommy
Thompson, an artist from
Florence, Ala.
Unframed prints are S3O, and
are available at the Mitered
Comer. All proceeds go toward
funding the Chamber of
Commerce’s fund-raiser; its annu
al program of work. Framed dis
play prints have been placed at the
Chamber of Commerce, the banks
and the Mitered Comer.

Loaves and Fishes of South
Houston County in Perry is still
looking for a home. This non-prof
it organization has been meeting at
St. Christopher’s-at-the-
Crossroads Episcopal Church,
which now needs the space due to
growth of the church.
This organization faces a shut
down if a new home isn’t found by

An organization meeting for
Just Skirts Travel Club was held
Sunday,Nov. 24, at The Travel
Center on Washington Street,
Perry. Janice Walker and Nellwin
Moore are co-owners of the Travel
Center and co-hosted the meeting.
Approximately 40-50 women
from Perry and middle Georgia
communities attended and picked
up membership applications.

They have four grandchildren and
