Seven Perry High students nominated for Governor s Honors

Seven students from Perry
High School have been nominat
ed for the 1996-97 school year
Governor’s Honors Project.
Governor’s Honors is a multi
week summer enrichment pro
gram held each year at Valdosta
State University.
Once students are nominated,
they go through an interview and
review process while waiting
selection for the program.
Nominees arc notified during the
spring if they are selected for the
summer session.
Perry High nominees include
April Fendley in math, Christy
Fowler in science, Emily Noel in
music. Hill Frame in theater, Chaz
Fillholm in theater and Shannon
Lanier in dance. Michael
Marshall in nominated in execu
tive management.
April Fendley, 16, is a junior.
She is the daughter of Stan and
Debbie Fendley of Perry.
Other awards won by Fendley
include being a National Honor
Society inductee, having the high
est average in biology, and the
award for best average for the
year.
Fendley is active in several
extracurricular activities at PHS
including the varsity softball and
basketball teams. She is a member
of the National Honor Society, the
Prayer Club, Student Council,
Math Team, Future Business
Leaders of America, Arrive Alive,
International Club and Fellowship
of Christian Athletes.
Fendley was selected for the
Perry High Math Team,is a
Georgia Math Team Competition
Participant, and received the 90 or
above Average in Math Award.
Christine Daniel Fowler, 16, is
a junior. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Fowler of a
Hawkinsville address in Houston
County.
Fowler has been the president
of her class as a freshman, sopho
more and junior She has been in
the gifted program all three years
of high school, and is in her sec
ond year of membership in the
National Honor Society.
A student council representa
tive the past two years, Fowler
was named class representative to
the PHS homecoming court for
the past three years.
She received first academic
honors as a freshman and sopho
more, and was a member of the
Math Team her freshman and
sophomore years.
She received an award for a
perfect 4.0 grade point ratio, and
was named a top softball player

her freshman year. She was also a
member of the junior varsity
cheerleading competition team
her freshman year.
As a junior, Fowler was named
to the Varsity Cheerleading Camp
Champions honor and was named
an Outback Bowl participant.
She has been recipient of the
Galaxy of Academic Leaders card
as a freshman and sophomore. She
is a contributor to the Xenophilia
student literary magazine, and was
named an All-America Scholar by
the U.S. Achievement Academy.
Fowler’s extracurricular activi
ties include the Youth Activities
Club, the Prayer Club, varsity
softball, cheerleading, Junior
Civitans, FFA and the One-Act
Play cast.
She was the Reserve Grand
Champion of the mini-booth com
petition at the Georgia National
Fair, and captured second place in
the research competition at the
Fair. She also captured second
place in landscape design compe
tition at the Georgia National Fair.
Another junior is Emily Dixie
Noel, 16. She is the daughter of
Mr.a nd Mrs. Thomas Noel of
Perry.
Among her honors are First
Honors Award as a freshman and
sophomore. Most Cooperative
award in Cross Country, the
Coach’s Award in track, and a let
ter in Cross Country.
Noel is a member of the
National Honor Society and as
named a Young Woman of
Promise winner as a sophomore.
She received an award for more
than 100 hours of service at Perry
Hospital.
Her extracurricular activities
include three years each at cross
country, marching and and sym
phonic band. She has also been a
track team member, a church
youth group member, part of the
basketball pep band, and the math
league.
A volunteer at Perry Hospital,
Noel is also a member of the
International Club and the Quiz
Bowl.
She received the Outstanding
Freshman Award from the Perry
High Band, a superior rating in
solo and ensemble competition, a
superior award in large group con
cert, and was named 11th chair of
the Georgia Music Educators’
Association District XI Honor
Band.
Noel received the Outstanding
Bandsman Award during 1995,
and superior at solo and ensemble
competition, and was named first
chair at the GMEA District Honor
Band. She was the third chair in
the Georgia Music Educators
Association for 1995.

She has earned several other
music awards including a superior
rating at large group and concert
festival, the Tri-M Music Honor
Society award, fourth chair of the
Houston County Honor Band and
a superior rating at the
Hawkinsville Invitational
Marching Festival.
A junior, 16-year-old William
Eugene Frame is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. William Frame of
Kathleen.
He was selected for the Mercer
university Choral Festival. His
writing was selected for publica
tion in the PHS student literary
magazine Xenophilia.
Frame has been co-editor of the
Xenophilia, a member of the One-
Act Play cast, appeared in the
spring musical two years, and is
now a member of the Youth
Advisory Board of the Clean
Community Commission.
A member of the International
Club, Frame is active with the gui
tar, fencing and role-playing clubs
at PHS.
Charles “Chaz” Patrick
Fillholm, 16, is a junior. He is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick
Fillholm of Perry.
Holder of the Eagle Scout
Award, Fillholm has participated
in such activities as football (as a
manager), the Prayer Club, Soccer
team, Church youth group, Boy
Scouts, the One-Act Play cast,
plays at Perry Players, Thespians,
the Wrestling team, National
Honor Society, the yearbook staff
and the school newspaper staff.
Fillholm was a member of the
1995 Perry One-Act Play cast
which was state first runner-up. he
was nominated as an All-Star cast
member, and was a member of the
1995 fourth place One-Act Play
cast for State Literary
Competition.
Shannon Ann Lanier, 16, is a
junior at Perry High. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall
Lanier of Elko.
The winner of first place in the
World Open Trip, she has earned a
perfect 4.0 average for two years.
She was named the student with
the highest average in civics and
economics. She is a member of
the Math League and was the
sophomore high scorer award.
She was named the Miss
Hawaiian Classic Twirl Queen,
the Junior Miss Dogwood Twirl
Queen, the Jr. Muss Cherry
Blossom Twirl Queen, and earned
eighth place in the Junior Miss
Majorette of the Southeast compe
tition.
Lanier captured seventh place
in the World Open Intermediate
Strut for 15 year olds, at the
International Level; and 12th

Place in World Open Intermediate
Two Baton for 15 year olds.
Lanier participates in such
activities as the Dance Team and
the National Honor Society. She
served the freshman class as sec
retary. She is a member of
Showbiz Twirlers, the Majorette
line, the Math Team, a church
youth group, the Track team, the
Cross Country team and the
Prayer Club.
She has participated with the
One-Act Play cast, in the Spring
Musical, and is a member of
Thespians and Arrive Alive.
Michael Eugene Marshall. 17,
is a junior. He is the son of
Barbara Marshall of Perry.
He was named the person with
the highest average in Algebra II
for both years in high school, he
also has received the highest
average awards for Physical
Science and Biology.
He has been previously nomi
nated as a Governor’s Honors
Project participant in math and
Spanish.
Marshall is a pianist at his
church and is a member of
Memorial Heights Baptist
Church. He is also a member of
the marching and concert bands.
A member of the Junior
Civitans and PRC, he is the Junior
Civitan Lieutenant Governor for
Area 6.
Marshall is a member of the
Science Club; National Honor
Society, and the French Club
