mance combining the adult choir
and youths of the church Dec. 14-
15.
The music was provided by
members of the adult choir while
church youth portrayed various
characters.
A fellowship hour was held fol
lowing the program on Dec. 14.

Jackson, 43, was reared in
Perry with his other brothers: Earl,
Michael, Garrett, the late Willie
James Jackson, Hazel Daveson,
and Levemice Jackson. His moth
er is Mrs. Annie Willie Jackson,
and his father, the late Willie
“Bro. Taylor” Jackson,
He attended Houston County
Training School, later Houston
High School, and now known as
Perry Middle School. He also
attended, as a youth, the New
Hope Elementary (Annex) School
in Pern* He graduated from Perry
High School in 1971.
He received an undergraduate
degree in business education from
Fort Valley State College in 1975.
He has completed more than 60
hours of credit toward his master’s
degree in guidance counseling at
the Fort Valley State University.
Jackson worked as a parapro
fessional and full time substitute
teacher at the Perry Middle
School until June 1995, after hav
ing been substitute teaching in the
Houston County school system
for more than 20 years.
He also worked in various posi
tions for 19 1/2 years at the
Kellwood Co., now known as
Trendline Co. in Perry.
He is a licensed agent and
regional leader for Primerica
Financial Services which is a sub
sidiary of Travelers Group which
includes Primerica Life Insurance
Co., Commercial Credit, and oth
ers.
He is also a salesperson for
WXXO (1150 AM) Radio Station
and Heaven 100 (100.1 FM) in
Fort Valley. He is the Saturday
afternoon radio announcer for
Habitat for Humanity to dedicate new home

Houston County Habitat for
Humanity will dedicate its sev
enth home within Houston County
and the second within the city of
Perry at 3 p.m. on Dec. 22 at the
home located at 1312 John
Clerkly Drive, Perry,
The home will be open for
al Christmas carols blended with
praise music.
At both services, open commu
nion will be served and a
Christmas meditation by the Rev.
Gene Bates, Senior Pastor, will be
given.
Music will be both traditional
and contemporary and led by Dan
Waits, minister of music and wor
ship. The Rev. Bill Huddle, minis
ter of discipling, will assist in the
service.
The community is invited to
come to this informal worship

Andrew is located between

Houston Lake Country Club.
Messiah presented at Perry
Methodist Church
G. F. Handel’s “The Messiah”
was presented by members of the
Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra of
Perry United Methodist Church on
Dec. 11 and 12, under the direc-
tion of Dr. Don L. Hutchison,
Minister of Music.
Soloists were: Allen Burrell,
tenor; Charles Daniel, bass; Sara
Muse, alto; and Betty Dawkins,
soprano.
Sanctuary Choir members
include sopranos Kathy Adams,
Jackie Beeland, Tracey
Bloodworth, Wanda Bragg, Lea
Brannen, Sybil Brown, Karen
Clay, Betty Dawkins, Hayley

Jackson is active in the com
munity and holds memberships
and offices in several civic and
service organizations. He is presi
dent of the Perry Civic League,
the past president of the Fort
Valley State College National
Business Alumni Association.
Jackson is secretary of Adam
Lodge No. 734, Modern Free
Accepted Masons of the World,
Inc., the Past Grand Chaplain and
Associate Chaplain of Joppa
Temple Grand Lodge of
Columbus, and is the Christian
Flag Bearer for Joppa Temple
Grand Lodge.
He was a charter member of the
Perry Evening Optimist Club and
has held the office of president
and first vice-president of the
Houston County NAACP.
Jackson serves as a mentor at
the Perry Elementary School. He
is a deacon, choir member, super
intendent of the Sunday school
classes and Sunday school teacher
at the Old Field Baptist Church in
Perry.
He worked as a radio announc
er on WPGA-FM (Magic 101) and
WPGA-AM from June, 1986 until
Jackson
December 1994.
He has been the master of cere
monies for many local churches,
groups and individuals. He
believes in promoting gospel
music, especially local groups, in
promoting local talent, and and is
active in working with children.
He helped to get districts in the
city of Perry to help get minorities
elected to public office.
He is the father of Aisha
Yolanda Jackson and Shandreka
Shanta Jackson, and the grandfa
ther of Alexia Leshay Askew.
His hobbies include watching
all types of sports, writing, read
ing, collecting coins and stamps,
and playing the guitar, tambourine
and organ.
Many local groups have been
invited to participate in the appre
ciation program. Bro. Mitchell
Worthy 111 of Perry will be the
emcee. The public is invited.
There is no admission charge.
Prizes will be given after the pro
gram.

Yarbrough dresses to
portray character
Dec. 15, the Rev. Dr. John O.
Yarbrough, pastor of First Baptist
Church of Perry, dressed in
Eastern attire, similar to that worn
around the time of Jesus’ birth, and
representing one of the Magi, gave
a very effective monologue,
telling of his background, why the
Magi were on this journey, why
they brought the gifts of gold,
frankincense and myrrh to the
Baby in the manger, and why they
decided to take another route back
to their homes.

an Angel Tree to provide
Christmas gifts for the children of
inmates of the Houston County
Correctional Institute.
The tree is placed in the atrium
with angels which indicate the age
and sex of each child in a family.

Evangelism Conference,
Youth Group Meets at
Perry Chick-fil-A
Started some years ago by First
Baptist Church youth, who invited
friends in neighboring churches,
the youth group meets at 7:30 a.m.
on Thursdays at Chick-fil-A for
food, fellowship, a devotional and
prayers.

also and was cooperative in sched
uling the group to meet there.
The youth are ages junior high
through college. On Thursday
mornings, visitors will see an
average of 110 young people
the most is around 130.
The meetings began two years
ago with about 20-40 attending
and has continually grown.
At the meeting last week,
Kathleen Rood gave the devotion
al. There were prayer requests for
families that had lost members, for
college kids coming home, and for
themselves as they study, work
and play each day in their various
settings.
