City to recycle
Christmas trees
Special to the Times-Journal
The city of Perry will offer a
Christmas tree recycling program
following the holiday.
As part of a statewide effort to
reuse Christmas trees, the city is
sponsoring two sites where resi
dents can drop-off their trees Jan.
4 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p. m. In
appreciation of their recycling
efforts, participants will receive a
red maple or dogwood seedling
while supplies last.
The recycling program helps
the city meet laws concerning the
ban of yard waste at the Houston
County landfill.
“Trees are a reusable resorce,
so we should avoid taking up
expensive landfill space with
something we can put to good
use,” said Lynn Cobb, coordina
tor of the Georgia Clean and
Beautiful program.
“The Christmas trees will be
recycled into mulch or sometimes
they will be placed in lakes as fish
habitats,” she said.
Trees accepted for recycling
must be free of boards, nails, tin
sel and all ornaments.
The manned sites in Perry are at
the North Avenue parking lot of
Perry High School, and at the city
bam where Jemagan Street meets
Tucker Road. Trees will be accept
ed Jan. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
