Montezuma hospital named among nations best

MONTEZUMA Competitive pressures
are making winners out of some hospitals. The
nation’s 100 top hospitals, as recognized by
two healthcare management and consulting
firms, combine razor’s-edge managements
with an ability to operate in a difficult market
place and remain financially sound.
Flint River Community Hospital of
Montezuma was one of those hospitals recog
nized in the nation’s top 100.
These hospitals also are finding ways to
maintain lower-than-expected rates of compli
cations and mortality even as they shorten the
length of inpatient stays and increase their out

Ann Copeland of Bonaire, has
departed on a six-month deploy
ment to the Mediterranean Sea
with the 26th Marine
Expeditionary Unit.
The 1994 graduate of Houston
County High School joined the
Marine Corps in June 1994.
Zammitt competes in
Marine Corps marathon

Zammitt, son of Matthew D.
Zammitt of Perry, recently partici
pated in the 21st annual Marine
Corps Marathon in Washington,
D.C.
The 1983 graduate of Perry
High School joined the Marine
Corps in September 1993.
Jarvis Stripling helps fight
Umatilla forest fire
Marine Pfc. Jarvis D. Stripling,
son of Martha A. Collier of Perry,
was one of 45 Marines, Sailors
and U.S. Forest Service firefight
ers involved in the evacuation of a
Marine injured during work on the
Tower Fire, which had destroyed
50,650 acres in the Umatilla
National Forest in northeastern
Oregon.
The 1995 graduate of Perry
High joined the Marine Corps in
November 1995.

a six-month deployment to the
Mediterranean Sea with the 26th
Marine Expeditionary Unit
(MEU), embarked aboard the
ships of the USS Nassau
Amphibious Readiness Group
(ARG).
The 1994 graduate of Houston
County High School joined the
Marine Corps in June 1994.

and William M. Mercer Inc., both of which are
national providers of health care consulting.
In announcing the award, HCIA/Mercer
stated that, “to qualify for this recognition, hos
pitals had to rank above their peers on a com
bination of eight measures that indicate high
value through high-quality outcomes, effective
use of resources, and efficient provision of care
a balance that HCIA and Mercer have found
to be the best combination for long-term insti
tutional stability.”

work they are doing!”

PROJECT MANAGER
Position will serve as a bridge between Family Connection and the newly con
stituted Kid's Journey. The project manager will be expected to provide year
around administrative leadership between community service agencies and at
risk families; develop united support for the Kid's Journey, which will Involve
parents, community leaders, teachers, and social service agencies; Initiate devel
opment of nonexistent services through comprehensive needs assessment and
a comprehensive community collaboration plan; pursue funding sources and
perform other duties as assigned by a board of directors. An appropriate
amount of well suited training/education and experience is desired of applicants.
Salary will be determined based on training/education and experience (range;
