The official Perry Clean and
Beautiful Commission will be
starting off 1997 with a new slate
of officers. Gail Brown will be
Chairman, Liz Stinson will be
Vice-Chairman, and Kaye
Kitchens will be
Secretary/Treasurer.
The new commission is the
combined Clean Community
Commission and the
Beautification Commission. The

Myra Silvers Felker
Services for Myra Silvers
Felker, 89, who died Dec. 15,
1996, were held at graveside at
Pine Level United Methodist
Church Dec. 17. The Rev.
Clarence officiated.
Bom the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Will Silvers in Monroe
County, Tenn., she had resided in
Oglethorpe most of her life where
she was a homemaker and a mem
ber of White Water Baptist
Church. She is the wife of the late
John Reuben Felker.
Survivors include her daugh
ters, Mrs. Lorene Hardage of
Ogelthorpe, Mrs. Beatrice
Williams of Perry; brother, Creed
Silvers of McCormick, S.C.; sis
ter, Mrs. Bessie Hobbs of Tunnel
Hill; three grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Joseph R. Flowers
Services for Joseph R. Flowers,
82, who died Dec. 12, 1996, were
held at Second Memorial Baptist
Church with burial in Perry
Memorial Gardens Dec. 14.
He was an Army Air Corps vet
eran of World War II and was an
aircraft mechanic, retired from
Robins Air Force Base. He was a
member of Second Memorial
Baptist Church. He was a native of
Madison County, Fla., and had
lived in Perry for 39 years.
Survivors include his wife, Inez
Dempler Flowers; children,
Joanne F. Wells and Bobby Jan
Flowers, both of Perry; brothers,
Wallace Flowers of Pavo, and
Francis. Flowers of Tallahassee,
Fla.; five grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the
Hospice of Houston County, P.O.

Man hurt while
working in silo

BONAIRE A worker at
Houston Fertilizer and Grain
suffered from leg injuries sus
tained while working in a silo,
according to Houston County
Fire Chief Jimmy Williams.
Forty-six-year-old Robert
Thompson was working inside
a 25-foot silo the afternoon of
Dec. 16 when he slipped and
fell into a working auger, said
Williams.
Thompson was able to free
his legs from the auger, climb
out and turn the machine off
before calling for help,
according to the chief.
Thompson was taken to the
Houston Medical Center
where he was listed in stable
condition that night.
He was later transported to
Crawford-Long Hospital in
Atlanta, according to hospital
marketing director Mary Jane
Kinnas.
No patient report from
Crawford-Long regarding
Thompson’s condition was
available at press time.

Fred Haslem
KATHLEEN Services for
Fred Lee Haslem, 38, who died
Dec. 10, 1996, were held Dec. 14
at Sandbed Baptist Church with
burial in the church cemetery.
Bom in Houston County, he
was the son of the late Jamie
Haslem. He attended Houston
County public schools and was
formerly employed at State
Roofing Co.
Survivors include his mother,
Lucy Mae Haslem of Kathleen;
sisters and brothers, Lena Mae
Haslem, Edward Haslem and
Horace Haslem, all of Kathleen,
and Lucy Radford, Jamie Haslem
Jr., Charlie Haslem, Donna Clark,
David Haslem and Sarah Duhart,
all of Warner Robins.
Richardson Funeral Home in
Perry had charge of arrangements.

of Blairsville, celebrated her 80th birthday two days earlier, on Dec. 14, at her for
mer Perry home, 1414 Duncan Ave., now owned by her nephew, Wayne Chapman
and his wife, Yvonne Chapman. Twenty-six relatives and their spouses attended
her party. They were, as pictured: brother, James and Vivian Short of Tacoma,
Wash.; nephew Bill and Joyce Short of Clearwater, Fla; niece Joanne Rogers of
Clearwater Fla., sister Elizabeth and Harris Chapman, nephew Wayne and Yvonne
Chapman, cousins Sara Tabor, Houser and Alice Gilbert, Woodrow and Jean
Gilbert, Chesley and Evelyn Cawthon, Margaret Watson, Dicky Gilbert, all of Perry.
Other cousins who attended earlier and are not in picture were: Walter Watson,
Allen and Donna Tabor and Floyd Tabor, all of Perry; Sylvia and Sonny Shealy of
Atlanta and Jane Hogan of Macon.
