By EMILY JOHNSTONE

Middle Georgia businessman Lowell Register
wants to plug Perry on the airwaves.
His local radio station, WPGA-AM 980, has
already begun to do that, running spots on the air that
tell anyone listening about the things Perry has to
offer. His primary targets are travelers on the inter
state and he thinks the radio spots are designed in
such a way to help pull those travelers off the inter
state and into the Perry economy.
Register told Perry council members at a recent
work session that the station is running the promo
spots along with its regular format of oldies music.
He told the group he hopes they will see the posi
tive impact such promotion could have on the area
and provide him with financial help to keep the pro
motional spots going.
Register said he has been looking at going with a

format of continuous radio spots plugging Perry. He
has a number of billboards along the interstate, espe
cially around the Macon area that entice travelers to
tune their vehicle radios to WPG A AM to hear the
spots, he added.
But, all of this costs money, he pointed out. What
he seeks from city coffers averages about $13,000 per
month.
Part of the monies could come from the Perry Area
and Convention Bureau Visitors funds that come in
from hotel/motel tax.
Register told council members he believes the
money would be well spent to promote the area. The
plan is similar to a private operation in Adel.
He asked city officials to consider what they can
do to help him promote Perry on the air.
That is one topic that is scheduled for discussion at
an upcoming meeting regarding promotions to be
held at 5:30 p.m. at the Welcome Center Jan. 23.
