Fay G. Beale
MACON Services for Fay G.
Beale, 70, who died Jan. 17, 1997
were held Jan. 20 at Hart’s
Mortuary. Burial was in Riverside
Cemetery.
She graduated from Crawford
High School in 1944 and Macon
School of Business in 1945. She was
a member of Tabernacle Baptist
Church and Victory Sunday School
Class, where she was a group leader.
She also was retired from American
General Finance.
Survivors include her daughter,
Julie Elaine Beale Vaughan of
Macon; brothers and sisters, Homer
Gassett, Frank Gassett, Marcus
Gassett, and Cleo Rowland, all of
Fort Valley, Jake Gassett of Kathleen,
Viloula Hall of Houston, Texas, and
Elizabeth McGrotha of Warner
Robins; and two grandchildren.
Hart’s Mortuary had charge of
arrangements.

Chaplains Sunday. The American Legion is asking local
rstors to observe Four Chaplains Sunday, since Feb.
marks the 54th anniversary of the sinking of the
troopship Dorchester, which carried to their deaths
four Chaplains of three faiths who stood united in
prayer as the ship went down. These four Chaplains,
Roman Catholic, Jewish and Protestant, gave their
own life jackets to four soldiers and thus sacrificed
their own lives to save the lives of others.

he lived most of adult life in Miami,

Services for Betty Whetstone
Jacobs, 80, who died Jan. 21, 1997,
were held Jan. 23 at Perry United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr.
Marcus Tripp, Dr. Billy Key and the
Rev. Ken Myers officiating. Burial
was at Perry Memorial Gardens.
A native of Elmore County, Ala.,
she had resided here since 1945. She
was co-founder and owner of Jacobs
Insurance Agency for 37 years; a
member of DelphiaqClub, Circle 3,
Susannah Wesley SS Class, and a
member of the Perry United

President Clinton, Project XL
(Excellence and Leadership) was
created by EPA as part of an ini
tiative to provide regulatory flexi
bility in exchange for obtaining
superior environmental results, a
spokesman for Weyerhaeuser said.
Weyerhaeuser is the only for
est products company to be
accepted into the EPA’s XL pro
gram. Flint River is the third
facility in the United States to
reach a Final Project Agreement.
Under the signed agreement,
the Flint River Operations agrees
to continue to perform beyond
Regulatory requirements. As an
incentive for this level of perfor
mance, the EPA and Georgia
Environmental Protection
Division will provide more flex
ible and lower cost processes for
regulatory management.

member of the Delphian Club,

A native of Emanuel County, she
had resided here for 40 years. She
was a former hostess for the New
Perry Hotel, widow of James
Bertram Branan and Jack Peavy, and
a member of the Perry United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, James
T. Branan of Marietta; stepdaughter,
Jackie Young of Ocala, Fla.; four
grandchildren and one great grand
child and several nieces and
nephews.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home had

Services for Arianna Nicole
Jones, the infant daughter of Lisa
Rowland and Quentell Jones, will be
private. Arianna died Jan. 22, 1997
in a Macon hospital.
Survivors other than her parents
include her brothers, Marc Holmes
and Jamari Jones, both of Perry;
several grandparents; and several
great grandparents.
