Mission Statement
The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce is organized on
behalf of its membership to promote business and enhance
the quality of life for the Perry Area.
Acknowledgments
This year’s accomplishments would not have been pos
sible without volunteers. Leaders gave their time and ener
gy to develop goals and strategies that allowed the chamber
of commerce to fulfill its mission. We extend thanks to the

Purpose: Build and maintain productive relationships
between the Chamber of Commerce and its business mem
bers and all local, state and governmental bodies.
1996 Projects
City Council -A representative of the Chamber of Com
merce attended a majority of the City of Perry City Council
work sessions and/or council meetings to report on chamber
activities and remain informed on City issues which could
effect local businesses. The mayor and/or city manager are
invited to attend all board meetings.
The City and the Chamber of Commerce work hand-in
hand on a variety of projects. The Chamber of Commerce
presented a framed “Perry Print” to the City in October, as
a token of its appreciation.
County- The county commission chairman is invited to
attend all board meetings.
Federal/State Legislators - The year began with U.S.
Senator Sam Nunn speaking to the membership at the 40th
Annual Meeting. Chamber of Commerce leaders also at
tended the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Legislative
Luncheon in Atlanta, where Senator Nunn was again the
featured speaker. Chamber representatives attended a
farewell luncheon for Colleen Nunn and a dinner honoring
retiring U.S. Senator Sam Nunn.
Bibb/Houston Delegation - The Chamber participated in
a Bibb/Houston Leadership Breakfast on June 5, in which
80 leaders gathered to discuss efficiency in government and
regional cooperation between the two counties. A follow
up meeting was held on September 5 with leaders of the
four cities, two counties, two chambers, and two develop
ment authorities in attendance.
Houston County Efficiency in Government - The cham
ber participated in a joint meeting of county leaders on June
12 to discuss efficiency in government and consolidation of
services between the cities and county.

Perry Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Report, Jan. 2s, 1997
over 75 Houston County leaders attended the Houston
County Legislative Luncheon in Atlanta. The event is co
sponsored annually by the Perry and Warner Robins Cham
bers of Commerce. Georgia Department of Transportation
Commissioner Wayne Shackleford and Secretary of State
Lewis Massey were the featured speakers, along with
Houston County’s state legislative delegation: Senator Son
ny Perdue, Representative Larry Walker, Representative
Sonny Watson, Representative Johnny Floyd, and Repre
sentative Robert Ray.
Task Force Issues - The Chamber of Commerce helps
create task force committees to address community issues
Currently, the Chamber is working with legislators, the
County, and the City on the Courthouse issue. The Cham
ber Board of Directors and two county commissioners met
September 3 to discuss the County’s current situation and
possible solutions.
Leadership Perry
Chairperson: Linda Easterly, Perry Hospital
Purpose: To develop and expand the base of informed
and qualified leaders for Perry/Houston County. This com
mittee is not funded by the general fund, but by the busi
nesses which sponsor a participant.
1996 Projects
Press Conference - A press conference was held at the
Perry Welcome Center in December to introduce the fifteen
class participants and their sponsors.
Class Tours - Tours and orientations were given of the
following: State Legislature. Houston County schools, area
colleges and technical institute, health care facilities and
human resource services, Warner Robins Air Force Base,
existing industries. County government, City government,
chambers of commerce, convention and visitors bureaus.
Class Retreat - The class participated in a two-day, off
site retreat with team building sessions conducted by Bud
dy Glazner of Georgia Power’s Community Development
Department.
Class Survey - A survey of participants’ opinions on the
strengths and weaknesses of Perry/Houston County was
conducted at the retreat. The results are used for strategic
planning.
Class Graduation - A graduation ceremony was held on
October 20 for the participants - 12 of the 15 original mem
bers completed the program.
Alumni Program- A master list of Leadership Perry
Alumni is available to local government and other organiza
tions. The Chamber of Commerce encourages graduates to
become involved with chamber committees. Alumni also
help plan future Leadership Perry programs.
