VOCA members focus on local
nursing home for project

Members of the Perry High School VOCA Club
have decided to focus on local nursing homes for
their 1996-97 community service project.
According to Regina Head, club reporter, “It was
decided that we would design, create and carry greet
ing cards to the residents of New Perry Nursing
Home.”
She said this was done for the 95 residents of the
home at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine’s

“This was a monumental task, but once we started,
most of us received a good feeling each holiday for
doing something for the residents,” Head said.
Among those who have participated in the project
are Nikki Webb, Carlton Gilbert, Ilicia Lester, Carlos
Montgomery, Tasha Jones, Charlotte Walker, Quentin
Johnson, Trey Radford, Gladys Redding, and
Jaquetta Jackson.

Perry High ROTC names new leaders

Cadet Lt. Col. Ramona
Studstill has been named as the
new commander for the Perry
High School’s AFJROTC unit.
Studstill replaces Cadet Gwen
Smith who served as the comman
der during the first semester.
As Commander, Studstill will
be responsible for the overall per
formance of the ROTC Squadron.
Others named to the staff were:
Cadet Major Eugina Radford,
Deputy Commander; Cadet Major
Latriency Whithurst, Operations
Officer; and Cadet Major William
Sheets, Chief of Staff. Others

received an extra promotion and a
leadership ribbon.
Smith was awarded a leader
ship ribbon. In addition, these
cadets are permitted to wear a
shoulder cord during the semester
identifying them as winners and
have preference for being
involved in extra activities.
