the 6,528 Centerville (953) cus
tomers advanced telecommunica
tions “second to none,” according
to ALLTEL Area Manager Skip
Dawkins.
“Although these exchanges are
currently served by digital technol
ogy, the existing equipment cannot
be expanded to provide the more
sophisticated services customers
now expect,” said Dawkins.
He said advanced digital ser
vices provided by Integrated
Services Digital Network (ISDN)
technology will be available in
Centerville when the new equip
ment is installed.
“ISDN provides ultra high
speed data transmissions over
basic copper telephone lines,” said
Dawkins. “ISDN is the fastest and
most efficient Internet connection
available because it down-loads
graphics and large Files in minimal
times.”
The new Centerville equipment
will remote from Perry’s super
node host digital switch and will
be supported by 32 miles of fiber
optic cable placed in the south
eastern section of the county.
Dawkins said, “Our Georgia
network is 100 percent digital sup
ported by more than 2,100 miles
of fiber optic cable, and we are
spending more than SIOO million
annually deploying advanced
technology customer service
improvements.”
