they now have an "awesome responsibility" in their chosen career.

Mosquito spraying begins early
By EMILY JOHNSTONE
Times-Journal Staff
Much to the relief of many cit
izens of Perry, the city has now
begun its seasonal application of
Malithyon or as many people
refer to it, ‘skeeter spray.’
Mosquitoes are already out in
full force this year, due to the
warm weather and plenty of rain
fall, according to City Public
Works Director Hugh Sharp.
“They love warm nights and
moist weather,” he^aid.
Spraying off the chemical usu
ally begins in April, he added.
Malithyon, used properly, is
not harmful to humans, he reiter
ated.
“We mix a very small amount
of chemical with a large amount
of air,” said Sharp.
The sprayer is pulled by a city
truck that winds through the
neighborhoods of Perry, usually
after 5:30 p.m.
Sharp said the following sched
ule will be used for spraying
unless otherwise notified:
Mondays all areas east of
Macon Road and south of Swift
Street; Tuesdays the remainder
of the entire city; Wednesdays
will be used for respraying trouble
areas with extreme mosquito
infestation.
In case of inclement weather,
the schedule will slip one day,
Sharp explained.
“We cannot spray when it is
raining or if the temperature falls
below 60 degrees Fahrenheit,” he
said.

127, Kathleen, and Michael
Jeremy Wells, 19, of Bums Drive,
Warner Robins, according to
Everidge.
Everidge said the subjects were
spotted at a motel in Athens March
24. Athens-Clarke county authori
ties assisted in the arrests.
The investigator said several
charges stemming from the inci
dent are pending.

Starting times will be at 5:30
p.m., Eastern Standard Time, until
the time changes to Daylight
Saving Time April 6. After the
change the starting time will be 6
p.m., said Sharp.
“The duration will be approxi
mately 2 to 3 hours each day,” he
said.
Bail denied
The three Perry men charged
with the burning of a church in
Elko last month have been denied
bond in Houston Superior Court.
Jason Cantrell, Darryl Patterson
and Eric Shugart appeared for a
bond hearing March 21.
The case was recently returned
from federal court to Houston
County. The trio face up to 20 years
in jail and fines in the incident, if
found guilty.
Visiting Commission
Several Perry city officials will
be in attendance at the April 1 meet
ing of the Houston County
Commission. That is because the
group will be discussing plans for a
study of the courthouse situation.
A Superior Court Judge told
commissioners last year that they
must find a solution to the problem
of overcrowding and poor facilities
at the courthouse.
Perry Area Chamber of
Commerce CEO Hay ley Godbee
said the officials feel it is important
to attend the meeting in order to
keep abreast of the situation.
That meeting begins at 10 a.m.
Acknowledgements
May we take this opportunity
to express our deepest
appreciation to all who have
come to bring comfort and
consolation to us during this
difficult period. The words of
condolence, prayers, sympathy
cards, telephone calls, flowers
will never be forgotten. God
bless all of you.
